Are they worth applying for? both me and dh work full time (obvs not me tho as am on mat leave atm!) I'm a teacher so on a good wage and dh on decent wage too but not as much as me.

I'm just worried that if we apply we might have to pay back at end of the tax year with my wage being basic mat pay atm then going up in June to 4/5 of what it was when I return to work?

There is a calculator to see if you can claim...

Id ring them up and see what they say. Id think aslong as you tell them exactly what you earning now and then inform them when you money goes back up you shouldnt have to pay anything back, even if you only get £20 a week off them every little bit helps

You get your award based on the previous year's earnings. When your money goes back up, your award will change.

E.g when I go back to work my child tax credits will be based on 2009/2010 earnings, which are obviously pretty low. Next year's award will take into account me working 3 days a week so the award will drop.

I wouldn't bother with online calculators, they tend to be inaccurate. I'd call them up.

You only get working tax credits if your joint income is below £17k pa btw.

We get £20 per week child tax credits, every little helps

We get £20/week child benefit and £20/week child tax.

Well worth it as I work FT and so does DH

u may as well, we both work f/t but applied anyway. If you earn under 66k joint and have a baby under 1 ul get money. We get £100 a month, you won;t pay anything back as ul only receive what your entitled to:)

Its definately worth applying for, everything helps! When your childs under one you get quite a bit from working tax credits, think ours was about 70 + and now that she over 1 its gone down to about 40 a month. Child Tax credit is about 20 a month or your irst child and about 13 for your second. As long as you tell them exactly how much you earn and bonus etc you wouldn't have to pay owt back. I wouldnt leave it too long to claim athink they will only back date payments from 3 months, so you might be missing out!

you can get them to allocate on this years earnings thats what I did we get quite a bit but we have two so have gone from zero to 2 with me losing my income basically as they dont include maternity allowance - always worth it and as others said just keep them informed of current earnings and you wont have to repay xx

its the same application, so if you apply for ctc and are entitled to wtc you will automatically get it:thumbup:
