Childhood eye cancer - please be aware!

luckly its not too bad his eye sight is slightly affected but its fine, he will have to have them removed in the next couple of years which im not looking forward too!! my husband had it when he was a child and his eye sight is fine now. xx

Aww, hopefully your son will make a full recovery too then. It's good that you know it's there and will be taking action to sort it ... fair play though, I would be dreading that operation as well!! But his dad will be able to reassure him with first-hand experience at least. I never really thought about how precious a person's eyesight is until now. Xx

Thx for posting this:-):-) btw your daughter is gorgeous!:-):-)

Thanks - I'd say the same about your lovely three!! Really like your tickers too. :)

This happened to my son. He does have eye issues but thankfully not cancer.

I have seen quite a few threads on other forums where women have gone through the white eye ordeal and it has turned out to be astigmatism or strabismus. I don't know why my mind automatically leapt to cancer really when it was happening to my daughter. Just fear I guess. :/

Someone actually sent me a link for eye cancer when Thomas was a newborn - it's not something I'd have thought of or would have even worried about but it is good to get these things checked.

ETA: I think it's the astigmatism that triggers the white eye because of the way the lens is shaped.

Ah. With my daughter it's a slight squint that she should grow out of. Apparently when the eye is turned at a certain angle towards the nose, the optic nerve head is more likely to be caught by the flash and it just so happens that my child's eye naturally turns that way as a matter of course, so from certain angles it shows up white.

I wish I could be like you and not worry about things like this lol. I guess I am a bit of a pessimist ... still, nothing like being terrified your baby has cancer for four weeks to bring about a change in attitude. The outcome could have been awful and I am so grateful it wasn't!

Oh I worry... but things like this happen to us all the time :haha: my son has several issues so I'm getting quite used to it. I'm just glad your LO is ok :)

I know this post is older but I wanted to say that I am sitting right now typing this out at st jude children's research hospital in memphis tn where I will spend the next 11 months away from my home and children more than 10 hours away because my 3 month old baby was just diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma. Thank you for raising awareness.

I hope treatment goes well good luck xxxx

Oh goodness, how absolutely awful for you. I remember being so terrified over this. We were lucky.

I do hope your baby makes a full recovery - being so young, hopefully you have caught it early.

There is a lot they can do these days, as I am sure you are aware. Best of luck. Xx
