I was in the emergency room last Wednesday after taking Black cohash for 1/2 a week. The doc looked it up as it was the only thing different in my diet and he said that Black cohash AND dong quai have contraindications with pregnancy and have a small amount of cancer causing compounds. Black cohash has a moderate risk of liver damage and dong quai (angelica) causes uterin contractions (impeding implantation /causing m/c AND interacts with too many other drugs to be beneficial to you for ttc:
warfarin (Coumadin);
aspirin;
a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, others), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, others), ketoprofen (Orudis KT, Orudis), indomethacin (Indocin), etodolac (Lodine), nabumetone (Relafen), oxaprozin (Daypro), piroxicam (Feldene), sulindac (Clinoril), tolmetin (Tolectin), and others;
ardeparin (Normiflo);

Is it worth it? I think Vitex has much better reviews along with many more success studies. I'd sooner use science to my advantage with TTC than chinese hearsay herbs.
