Chinese takeaway for almost one year old?!

I'd let him have a little but that's my personal opinion. He's your son so you just ssy no.

You guys know babies in China eat Chinese food right? lol

I can't really see what the problem is with saying, "No, that's a bit too salty for him."

If your inlaws say, "Oh come on, it won't harm him," you can just say, "Actually, it's not recommended, so I'll just stick with the guidelines." If they say, "Ooooh, mummy's so mean," just smile and say, "Yes, terribly, terribly mean."

You can make whatever decisions you feel most comfortable with for your child, but it seems a bit much to expect to control or avoid any commentary on them as well. If you feel it's the right thing to do, I don't really see why you'd have a problem sticking up for your decision.

Hmm you could look up their food hygiene rating on the FSA app, one chippy my parents used to get Chinese from gets a big fat zero! If you can't get them on the health aspect then you may be able to convince them it's not safe from a food hygiene point of view. We only eat from one Chinese restaurant and it has an ok food hygiene rating and the food is very high quality and MSG free. We've taken our two year old there loads of times xx

I avoided Chinese while pregnant too for hygiene reasons. I can't really trust the "Cheap Chinese" restaurants as we call them here. A nice restaurant would be different, but sometimes it's just not safe. I don't know if I would let LO eat it at that age.

was this a joke sentence?

*real* chinese food is nothing like you get from a British or American Chinese takeaway. nothing at all like it!

good for you OP sticking to your guns, however at almost 12months id see no harm in eating certain foods, boiled rice and veg, or noodles and veg.

my 3 year old has chicken fried rice with sweet and sour sauce he thinks its a great occasional treat!

but in the end, do what your comfortable with!

It still kills me that Chinese food in the UK includes chips!! :haha:

As previous posters have said it's whatever you're comfortable with, and if sitting in a separate room with him to eat is what you felt ok with, then I'm glad you stuck to it and didn't let other people interfere with your decision.

R u serious? Chips? Reli?

Oh dear hahaha

That's terrible

I understand why the OP was reluctant to give her LO food from a Chinese takeaway shop - I wouldn't eat it, let alone my LO. Restaurants are different. And rice is one of the worst things for food poisoning if not prepared and stored properly.

I feel proper cruel eating takeaway in front of the little ones now? I always make sure they understand "This is your food, and this is mine" We all have different tastes in our house

Good for you missk for doing what you wanted! Its horrible that's people put guilt on you for not feeding YOUR baby unhealthy things!! Wish I had a pound for everytime I've bed asked f I've given lo chocolate yet - my reply, he's not having it until he can at least say it! Why would I want to rot his teeth before they have even all come through. Also people saying it didn't do our generation any harm - really!? Is that why we have an obesity pandemic!?

I agree with you 100% about the salt and msg. I love Chinese take away but it makes me feel crap. Didn't have it during pregnancy either.

I think she was joking around lol

Yeah, I read it as joking too?? Not sure why anyone thought it wasn't a joke?

I do find it strange that takeout Chinese are always run by Chinese people, yet its nothing like actual Chinese food. That I don't get. I still love it, but I don't get it.

They've adjusted it to western taste. I don't fancy eating a lot of authentic chinese food like chicken feet  they're a business so they cater to what we want.
