Hi ladies,

I am anxiously awaiting my blood results to come back to test for ICP or Cholestasis in pregnancy where your liver is affected, unfortunately i had it with my son, started itching like crazy at 37 weeks had the test done and they got him out by 39 weeks by c section as he was breech, so i knew with this baby i could also get it again. I started the itching at 34 weeks, and now its gradually become intolerable. What i'm more worried about is the baby, i know risk of still birth is high with this condition:cry: i'm just trying to monitor movements and make sure nothing slows down i'm just very worried since i got it so early this time. I also would love to avoid an induction but i also realize it may be the only way. I've been approved for a VBAC since this baby is head down and my DD my first born was born naturally. With an induction i hear the labor is more painful as your body is forced to start labor, is this true? i was hoping to try an avoid an epidural because i get horribly sick afterwards, and just stick with gas and air but i'm thinking that may not work if i'm induced :(

its all very scary but i'm pretty sure this is why i'm so itchy! if the blood test is negative i will most likely be asking for a repeat one but that could take just as long to come back :(

Being induced is a bit more painful but it depends too on the level that you are at. The lower levels are ok and not at all that painful but the higher you go the more intense the pain. I had my DS 3 weeks ago due to Cholestasis and I was also induced. It was pretty painful but not unbearable. I wasn't able to get an epidural either because I dilated from a 7 to a 10 in under 5 minutes so it was a natural birth.

Dwpending on the levels and your liver function from earlier then 37 weeks they could do dialasis my levels where always borderline in ds3 pregnancy but untreated i kno your liver could give in and that wouldnt be the greatest for both you or your child just ask midwive yo keep an eye on your levels

thank you, still waiting to see what my levels are :( i have a midwife appointment today so i hope i know more by seeing her

I don't have that but I do have low fluid levels and have been closely monitored for the last month, and now everyday until induction next Wednesday. We potentially might go sooner depending if her movements slow down. Just want to reach out and let you know it will totally be ok. inductions happen every day and no matter how our babies come into this world the main goal is safe and healthy. That is what I keep repeating to myself over and Over again! I am also not planning on an epidural either, for no other reason than because I just don't want one.

Sending you much love and support!

thank you everyone! they have confirmed i do have cholestasis and most likely i will be induced at 38 weeks - but problem being they dont like to induce women who have had previous c sections :( i meet with the specialist on tuesday to discuss, my midwife said to be adamant i do not want another c section, she also said if they want to induce early she will do what she can to help me get into labor on my own with stretch and sweep etc...

i want what is safe for baby but i also just wanted this to go the way its supposed to without all the stress and worry. I wish i were off work already unfortunately i can't be as there is no one to cover me until next week hopefully :( i need to prepare things!

So sorry you’re having to go through this, but what’s important is you have a happy and healthy baby at the end of it.

I had cholestatis around 37 weeks and I was induced at 39+5 weeks. It was my first baby and so I have nothing to compare it to but it was not the best experience, however my DS was born healthy that’s all that mattered.

Just keep a close eye on movements. Hope all goes well and I hope you can have the delivery you want x
