Hi

Currently 6 weeks pregnant with second child. Was on 20mg of citolopram for about 6 months and doctor advised to come off after taking half a tablet for 2 days.

I probably did half a tablet for a week before stopping. Past few days have been awful, I'm feeling agitated, dizzy etc. I feel I can't cope with this new pregnancy

You really need a longer time to wean off of it. I was on it for about 2-3 years and then got pregnant and weaned off of it too quickly and was miserable. After my loss I went back on it for a bit and then properly weaned myself off. I took about a month to do it and I've never felt better. No withdrawal symptoms or even anymore depression symptoms. Been off it for over a month now. Citalopram is one of the safer meds to take at least. But it's probably because you came off too quickly. Withdrawal can be horrible.

Hi,

I agree with KylasBaby, you need longer to wean off the tablets, the withdrawal symptoms (which you are describing) are terrible otherwise.

I didn't feel able to come off anti-depressants when I was pregnant but they did advise switching to Sertraline which is apparently proven to be slightly safer. We went though IVF and it was the clinic who advised this.

Please go and speak to another doctor as a very small dose of this medicine is ok to take in pregnancy.i was weaned of sertraline, same family as citlopram, and was put back on then at the end in 3rd tri and the 1st and last tri are meant to be the most harmful times to take them, my baby was fine.

If carefully monitored then these are fine to take. Xx

Ohhh geeez...I was on the EXACT same medication but was on it for years!!! probably 10 years! Small dose those same as you 20mg once a day. And it took me 2 months too properly wean myself off that CRAP!!!!! it was HORRENDOUS!! Ill never go back on it because the withdrawals are that bad!!! be very very very very careful you must wean urself little by little... I started by taking half for 3 weeks, then i had to half the half for 3 weeks, then i had to half that half for like 3 weeks, and half the other half for 3 weeks. I was litterly down to nothing, probably the size of sand and still taking it. You body will grab everything too the last bit. I couldnt even see what I was taking anymore thats how small i had too wean it down too. Its a bad medication too wean off!! But if you do it small by small it will work. But it will TAKE TIME!!! Luckily I went off it a year before trying to get pregnant because my doctor warned me it will take months too get off and he was right!!!! If you start feeling dizzy, sick, body feeling funny, electric shocks etc....THAT MEANS your weaning yourself off way too fast, so go back to what you were taking before and take a razor blade and slowly take bits off but take it for a week then do more off each week. It will take awhile but you will be free from it one day.

P.S. I tried to do the exact same thing you did and it doesnt work...lol...Withdrawals were too bad I thought I was dying...lol....
