I'm due to pick up my presciption this afternoon and was looking for any tips.

The doctor went through side effects for me but I had noticed comments on here about taking it in the evening so hot flashes were at night?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi

I finished my first round on friday, i took mine at lunch time. I had hot flushes all day and night but that was about it.

Good luck

Hi lovecakes

I took mine at night but got hot flashes only a couple of times during my cycle and was always a week or two after finishing the tablets. I had no issues with them at all and gave me my bfp, good luck!

How long do you have to be trying for the doctor to prescribe Clomid? Are there any other side effects? Apparently they are reluctant to give it and will have to keep in touch with the hospital...

I was ttc for 8 months but I knew I had cysts from an unrelated ultrasound a few years back. When my cycles were really irregular and long I went to get checked out. My gp then did tests for 3 cycles and showed no ovulation and so I got an early referral. My gp was amazing, really supportive.
Fertility clinic then did a scan, confirmed cysts on one ovary were the issue and put me on clomid straight away.

Side effects are similar to PMS, plus hot flushes. Nothing major. I had no issues at all, couple of hot flushes and that was it.

Hi ss83, I just wanted to ask a quick question if that's ok... I'm on round 2 of clomid 50mg. I have irregular cycles and don't always ovulate. I was just interested because you mentioned having a cyst. I had a scan which showed a 4cm cyst filled with blood. Doc said it was probably nothing, so had another scan yesterday (2months later) which showed it was still there, although they wouldn't confirm the size. They said it might be endo.

What type of cyst do you have? I've read people shouldn't take clomid while having a cyst, but my doc and yours obviously thinks its ok... I just hope I'm as lucky as you :)

Thanks xxx

This is my second round, all I've had was a bit more moody this cycle, but then I was under a lot of stress at the time also.

We have been TTC for over 18 months and they always new i would struggle to have children but they wouldn't refer me till we had been trying for a year
:hugs:xx

hi katie

I actually have loads of small cysts covering my right ovary, 25+ so it's called a polycystic ovary. think that may be slightly different from you? no mention of them having blood or anything.

clomid is a very common treatment for people with polycystic ovaries, for me the cysts were blocking ovulation so the clomid is forcing ovulation from my healthy ovary.

hope that helps!

I took my first round of Clomid in the evening and second in the morning and found that it didn't make much difference. Like Ss, I got hot flashes a week or so after finishing the pills the first time but got them while I was taking them this time. Both times it was mostly in the evenings.

Autumn - I was referred after a few months of trying and finally got an appointment after 6 months. My doctor said that you don't need to have been trying a year if there is an existing diagnosis of fertility problems. I did have to get a second opinion though - the first GP said that I was still young (I'm 28 this month...) just to wait and that I would eventually get a period.....:rolleyes:

Gps must be different. I have been on metformin for 7 months.

How many folicules did anyone have ???

xx

yeah it's a postcode lottery with the nhs.

I don't know. I only got one ultrasound on my first cycle with clomid to.check I wasnt overstimulated and I didn't actually ovulate on that cycle. this cycle they just checked I ovulated from cd21 bloods, but my progesterone was really high so they said they'll check for multiples at my scan in two weeks....eeek...!

My side effects were awful, I decided to stop taking it now which would've been my 3rd cycle. Super emotional, crying, felt dehydrated, couldn't sleep, felt like my brain was in a frying pan, super cloudy, fighting w everyone, pms symptoms, awful

Thanks for all the comments.

I was referred after 6 months because of all the problems it was obvious I wasn't ovulating and there was something wrong. When diagnosed with PCO at the clinic 8 months in they would have given me Clomid then but for the hyperplasia.

I go for a scan next week on day 11, then if everything is ok I won't need to go back. If I haven't ovualted or there is a problem I'll need another scan until the dosage is right.

I've always wondered if it was the Clomid or the stress of ttc that caused moodiness! I have OH warned :)

Thank you for responding :) I didn't see your sig said you have PCOS, that's definatly not what they think I have. Mine is just one big cyst on my left ovary. It just worries me that people have scans before clomid to check they have no cysts, and the info leaflet says not to take with cysts (must mean the big ones), but my doctor isn't concerned.

I think I will just get back in touch with the doctor to put my mind at ease

Thanks :) xxx

Thanks for getting back to us. By existing diagnosis of fertility problems does that mean yourself directly or if other family members have had major issues previously? They seem so reluctant to give it and apparently have to monitor a lot. At least you are all giving us an idea of the side effects that are relates in case the doctor changes her mind....

hi autumn - I had cysts show at a previous ultrasound a few years back for something unrelated,, so when my periods were all over the place my gp quickly started.progesterone tests and found no ovulation. so quickly got my fertility clinic referral.
you're right, they like to monitor you closely incase of multiple births. I know some countries are different, and even some nhs clinics, don't bother and just send you off with pills but I definately would want to be monitored like we were.

Okay, I guess it's different for everyone. We'll just have to have more bloods to confirm about ovulation. Just reading that although alot of women have lh surges it does not mean you ovulated! What temperature should you be around ovulation?

I was pretty miserable on Clomid too. Moody, bloated, hot flashes (and I live in the desert - hot flashes when it's 118 are a nightmare). I had sore ovaries and BDing was a little painful, ironically. When I was bumped to 150mg, it was a nightmare. I said no more. On the up side, I responded really well, with 5-6 eggs each cycle.

It means yourself (I had been investigated and diagnosed with PCOS 3 years before we started trying because I wasn't getting periods). I don't think there is enough of a genetic link in sub fertility for them to diagnose based on that. Are you being treated by a GP or at the hospital? After my experience with the first GP, my DH (who is also a doctor) looked up what the current protocol was for referring people to a fertility specialist, and it said wait a year unless there is known fertility issues and if so, refer straight away. Of course that doesn't mean that all GPs follow it and like someone else said, it's definitely a postcode lottery as to the care you get.

If you are seeing a GP, it sounds like they don't want to have to manage Clomid. Could you ask to be referred?

Good luck!
