Just started on clomid and Doc says if it doesn't work she will increase my dose when I go back in 3 mths. But I have just read an article which says if it doesn't work in the 1st 3 mths it is unlikely to work after and wanted to know if it hard worked on a stronger dose for anyone?

    Hi Kat

Can only talk for myself but Clomid didn't work for me... At least it did work in that it made me ovulate but didn't get me my BFP. HAd 2 rounds of 50 mg which didn't make me ovulate then doubled to 100mg which did. 6 cycles in total with a break in the middle for HyCoSi and Lap and Dye. If you are going back on 3 months I'm assuming you aren't being monitored? I got scans to measure the follicles and womb lining, HSG shots to help me actually release the egg and 21 day bloods to see if I actually had ovulated. Without all this monitoring it is a bit hit and miss as to whether it has actually worked. Having said all that, there are plenty of people form whom it has worked at various stages so we're all different.

    Good luck.

They don't actually mean "if it doesnt get you pregnant" when they say it didn't work - they mean "if it doesn't make you ovulate" which is really all it can do.

If on 50mg you have not ovulated then they would try 100mg to see if that makes it happen. If you are on 50mg and you DO ovulate, though, 100mg is not going to make you ovulate any better. That's what they always say. The best form of Clomid is Clomid at its lowest dose to make you ovulate. If you are releasing an egg with 50mg then 100mg will not change anything. It won't make you release more eggs, so to speak.

They normally accept defeat after six months, though, only because of the risks of cancer later in life.

Never worked for me. Never even ovulated on 100mg so I was never going to get pregnant on Clomid. It's something you have to try, though, just to say you've tried everything and for some it does actually work.
