I'm wanting to use a co sleeper for the first few months and was all ready to buy when I realized they're nowhere to be found in Canada. I can't exactly find information that they're explicitly banned, but there was a recall on the Arms Reach one I'm specifically looking at up to 2008 (which was 7 years ago...have we not made any progress since then!?).

Has anyone found stores in Canada that sell co sleepers or has anyone brought one in from the states?

Pretty sure co sleepers are banned in Canada after a baby died trapped between the co sleeper matress and the bed matress.
I'm planning on using this instead: https://www.bo-bebe.com/fr/equipement/berceaux/halo-r-bassinest-swivel-sleeper
It's pretty neat, can be brought very close to the bed/ on the bed as it swings 360 degrees :)

Ya I read about that, but also read the infant was far beyond the age/weight for the co sleeper and it wasn't being used according to the instructions, so I'm really not concerned about the safety aspect (especially since they are widely sold and used in the states and many other countries in the world). I still haven't been able to find information explicitly banning them (as in, will it be confiscated if I try to bring it over the border), just a recall for this co sleeper up to 2008 that was made in 2011. Nothing at all since.

I love the idea of the arms reach mini convertible as it can be used as a play pen afterwards. It feels extreme to spend $200+ on something that will only be used for a few months for each baby at a time, but the convenience of co sleeping (safely - and if used properly there's no reason it's not safe) is just so great.

I read about many people importing some from the US without issues, but you won't find any in stores here. It's more a warning than a ban it seems, I wouldn't worry about having it confiscated.

Did you check toys r us.ca im pretty sure they carry some

Yes chathamlady it seems they have some bassinets and co sleepers that go in the bed or in the room, but not the ones that attach to the adult bed. There's one listed thats not available online and I can't add to a registry, that states it can be used as a co sleeper attached to the bed, so I think I'll go into the store tomorrow and investigate. I'm going to the states in a week so if I don't find anything satisfactory here then at least I can pick something up while I'm there.

We borrowed one from a friend with our first (4.5 years ago) and tried it one night and hated it. I don't believe I've seen them though. But I haven't exactly been looking. Sorry.

I got a next-to-new Halo bassinest off kijiji for $180. There are lots of options without risking baby by having it in bed next to you. This bassinet would last at least to 8 months if that's the length of time you want baby sleeping with you - it's quite large.

Thanks, I've done a lot of research and feel completely comfortable with a co sleeper - I don't feel I'm putting my baby at risk when following all the necessary precautions.
