hi,

i am using a cold water sterilizer as below:

using sterilizing tablets as below:

https://www.ladycup.eu/Portals/0/milton_new.jpg

i was just wondering if any1 who uses this method can tell me...

1. When you take the bottles out of the sterilizer after they have been in there for an hour, do you dip your hand in the water or use something to pick the bottles out?

2. Once you have used all 4 bottles and it has not been 24 hours since you sterilized do you wash the bottles and put them back in the sterilizer? Or once you have used 4 bottles do you wash everything and put a new tablet in (even if it has only been say 12 hours)

3. When you make the milk do you take the bottle out and use it as it is or do you wash of the bottle with cool boiled water?

I hope someone can help

Thanks

I wash hands first then dip hand in.I use teat tongs for the teats though.

Nope I always reuse the water but only once.So twice in 24 hrs.

3. When you make the milk do you take the bottle out and use it as it is or do you wash of the bottle with cool boiled water?

I tip it upside down let it drip dry for a bit (whilst kettle is cooling)Then just pour it in.

I hope this helps xx

Thats what I do to!!

The leaflets they give you after you give birth don't exactly go into detail do they...

I odn't bother with the tongs at all; I just stick my hand in. I bothered with them when the nurses were watching me in hospital, but other than that, I don't bother. I'm one of those mums that will sterilise only because they tell me I have to, but am quite happy just to use fairy liquid and that's it

In the hospital I only had 2 bottles and I would use one, sterilise the other, then use the other and sterilise the first. You can use the same tablet for as many sterilising sessions as you like within the time limit. Obviously if you accidentally get washing up liquid in the sterilising solution, you should wash it out and start again. Now I sterilise my bottles all in one go (I didn't buy a posh container like you did, but instead I just bought a massive 10 litre tupperware that fits about 15 bottles at once It now means I only have to wah and sterilise them once at the end of the day

You're supposed to rinse them after having been in the steriliser, because the steriliser is bleach, and it's not ideal for your LO to be in contact with it. Also after a while you will see that your container starts to get a build up on the sides. That's after a lot of use, but there is a very thin later of build up on the bottles (sometimes you can feel it; they can feel a bit greasy) after they're sterilised, so it's important to rinse it off. You're supposed to rinse them with boiled water, but I just rinse them under the tap (as you can see, I'm happy for things to be clean, but also happy for my LO to get a few germs). If I know the bottles won't be used for a while, I will leave them on the drainer to air dry before putting them together and putting them away. If I know they will be used within another 24 hours, I will rinse them, give them a shake and put them together ready for the next day. I'm not about to hang around ot make sure they're bone dry if I know they will be used soon afterwards. Besides, if I left them on the drainer until they were completely dry, there would be no space for the normal washing up!

I don't do things by the book

You dont have to rinse with milton but you do with other cold water sterilizing tablets. :flower:

I make sure my hands are clean and just take things out by hand. I'm careful to minimise handling as much as possible.

I change the water within 24 hours but will re-sterilise throughout the day. In fact, I keep the bottles in the steriliser until I need them and just clean them as I go.

3. When you make the milk do you take the bottle out and use it as it is or do you wash of the bottle with cool boiled water?

I give them a shake and use them as they are. I use Milton as well and it says you don't need to rinse.

I hope that is useful!

I'm thinking if you use a bigger tub with more water and more bottles do you need more than one tablet?

I use the tablets when I go on holiday, and a smaller tupperware, but at home I use the Milton liquid, so add enough for the liquid I need.

I must have read that you have to rinse the steriliser off the bottles when I was using Morrisons brand, and just assumed Milton was the same. Good to know though, thanks :D
