Its Not Possible To Be On Benefits And Bee iNsaured as a first time driver is it?

would somebody out there please sayyy yhh im a sahm and i drive, i need some reassurance that this is possible :(

Of course it is...

I don't think it goes on your employment, I'm sure it goes on whether or not you pay

It does kind of go on your employment but thats mainly to make sure you can keep up repayments, some may ask a bigger initial depost from you but theres no reason they would say no your not being insured full stop

im not aware of insurance being refused for this reason - why dont you browse online and get a few quotes to give you some ideas

Ye well ive got a few quotes i want a peogeut 206/7 anmd my sister has the same car i wnt her is 2002 year so i have got a few quotes pretending thats my car and the lowest i got was £2100 i have had a few calls after that but due it not being my car i couldnt tell her the information for it off my head without having my sisters log book infront of me lol

i COULD aford around 200-250 a month insaurance but thats not including tax mot etcetc. im worried that winters gonner come swineflus gonna be back x 10000 and im gonner be on bloody travel west midlands!!! i HATE the cold and last year when i was pregnant i slipped on some ice and thats made me hate the cold/winter even more eventhoug i am a november baby but yeh...

How old are you? Remember that insurance is also based n the area you live in and how easy to stal and desirable your car is. Even when I was over 25 and a clean license I came out at £500 odd for liek a ford fiesta in a rural area as they are easy to steal.

A Pug206/207 would be classed as a desirable car.

What about getting an older car? As in pre 2001 - as these have a lower value therefore lower insurance. I know its not what you want, but it would man you are mobile and you could build up a no claims bonus.

Now cars is mys speciality, so your in luck lol.

1.) Yes - you can be insured on benefits, your not just disallowed a car as your on benefits.
2.) Monthly payments on insurance - this is where you MAY have difficulties. Insurance companies rely solely on your income as to wether they allow or dis allow the monthly payment allowance.
Being on benefits they see this as a slight income, but they also take into account your out goings.
3.) Peugeot 206 - Great choice! - i have a 2002 pug 206 and i absolutely love it, drives like a dream, hasn't give me any problems to date - but beware, french cars do tend to have a bad reputation.
Peugeot 206's are also classed as higher insurance as your a new driver, they tar you with the boy racer brush, because this is a car they do tend to choose (cheap to run, easy to mod - same as your .. Corsa, nova,Saxo,Fiesta,Civic)
mine is a 1.1 i would reccomend this on benefits, petrol is far from cheap and its not going down any time soon.
Tax bracket is also low. I would reccoment going pre 2001 as stated above, tax bands do tend to be lower, unless its a low emission or tax exempt vehicle.
4.) Your Quote - £2500 for a new driver, is absolutely terrible!
- is her car the Gti or GTI180? as this is far to high quote for a small vehicle.
when i got my first insurance, i was 17, on a 1.1 peugeot 106. and the insurance cost me £1400 for the year, womans are lower than a mans, so i would be expecting a quote if i was you for way under 1500!!
Remember, first car is likely to be crashed as new drivers arent always as good on the road due to lack of confidence and road and safety awareness.

Tip - Dont pay more for insurance, than the car is worth.

as you say you live in Birmingham, this is a big city, so you are going to have higher insurance prices, especially in certain parts of birmingham, as i used to work there for 2 years.

Good luck!

i was thinking same thing, im working full time 48 hours a week every month, and i struggle to find £50 spare after bills lol

Good luck getting a car you like and insurance that isn't too expensive. When you're getting quotes, try putting an older person on as an additional driver (somebody who hasn't had any accidents) because it can reduce your quote.

If your still stuck, send us a pm, my OH works for swiftcover so might be able to answer some questions

I work for a car insurance company, and we have thousands of unemployed policy holders who pay by DD, so you shouldn't have a problem. If you don't pay, your insurance gets cancelled & you owe us money - end of! Your insurance will be more expensive based on being unemployed as they will class you as having more opportunity to drive the car, therefore a higher risk of incident. Postcode, age, experience, make/model of car, engine size, value, accidents & convictions are then also taken into consideration when getting a quote, but it is important to tell the truth as if anything happens & you haven't declared something, then they may invalidate your insurance & refuse to pay. Feel free to ask me anything else you need to know :flower:

I work, but my quotes for insurance were still a lot.. I don't have a full license either. I just bought my car based on how much the insurance would be. I used Quinn Direct in the end, they insured my 2002 KA for £544. I paid in full so maybe that made it a bit cheaper. Maybe you should just get a cheaper car.

I work for a software house that provides insurance software to a huge number of Insurance Brokers and Insurance Companies themselves. Drop me a pm if you're still stuck and I'll tap into a few contacts for you and see what we can come up with. x

I was thinking this too!! I also work full time and there's NO WAY I could spare that much per month after paying for everything else, even with my darling OH chipping in.
please let us into your secret???
Maybe I should quit work and go on benefits lol!

Hii all sorry havent posted on this in a while i had to search google to find it!! lol

on benefits i get around 650 a month. im just on CTC And IS And CB.

nothing special there by the end of the month ive saved about 300, but then again i dont buy luxuerys just what is needed for me and my daughter.

im looking to start my own buisness mobile hense me really wanting to get a car, i kind of threw the idea out the window because i thought it wasnt possilbe.

i cant get no one else on my insaurance sadly :(

i dont mind what car i get but i would prefer a 206 1.1 as like someone above said before its cheap to run lasts long etc. i would prefer to save and pay highr for a car that lasts longer then pay quick for a banger which i have to pay to fix all the time and buy 3 times over iykwim.

thanks for the help and ladys if i can still pm you with details on how to get quotes and stuff please let me know xxxx

i think unless you find a different car your out of luck i pondered getting insurence on oh's car on a prov and it was going to cost me *18* £1,200 per year on a corsa Sxi 1.2.. 05 model.. he pays £800 and something per year with 2 or 3 years no claims and his 20 .. and our car is kept in a garage at the end of a dead end street in a block of garages so not "easy" access with gardens all over looking them plus cctv at the opening to the garages with a security light.
