Sorry if collostrum isn't spelled right :p.I was unable to breast feed DD1.I had a horrible milk supply that didn't even come in until 2 months post partum.I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and have been leaking what looks to be collostrum since 22 weeks. My questions are 1.Does this mean I will probably have milk this time and 2.If I continue to leak with all the collostrum be gone by the time I give birth.I plan on seeing a lacation specialist when I get the extra cash.Breast feeding is very new to me.

Nope, you will have plenty of colostrum for your baby. Your body makes more :) I think it's a good sign your milk will come in, but I'm not really sure about that. I wish you the best of luck! Congrats on your pregnancy!

Unfortunately leaking now is not a clear sign of anything... But if you somehow store what u are leaking in a sterile container and freeze it you can give it to LO when they are born. But I wouldn't try to "produce" it now, even if it seems to come naturally - nipple stimulation can bring on labour.

Nipple stimulation While NOT bring on labor unless your body is ready.. Otherwise breast feed moms who are pregnant will be in labor all the time.

Very good point! I didn't think of that... Just have always been told to avoid nipple stimulation till after 37 weeks for that reason! But I have never BF'd while pregnant.

I don't think that the amount of colostrum doesn't have any bearing on your milk supply. However if you're concerned you could harvest your colostrum now and freeze it for when your baby comes. That's what I did, I started hand expressing colostrum at 30 weeks, freezing it and when DD arrived at 39 weeks I had some in case she wouldn't feed or whatever. I managed to get 12ml at a time so I just hand expressed into a sterilised bottle and got single use sterile syringes and syringed the colostrum up. Then labelled it with the date and stuck it in the freezer! :)

Although, maybe coincidently, I had a lot of colostrum and I also have a very good milk supply... so maybe there is a link? Not sure though....

Thank you all for the replies.I think it will work out this time! I might start pumping at 35 weeks.

Nipple stimulation also makes your labour long and lts more painfully :(
