to those that feed breast milk via a bottle,do u put your LO one to the breast to stimulate or do u just express every few hours to keep milk supply up?
MW have told me to keep putting the LO to the breast at every feed but it is getting a bit tiresome now, so wasnt sure whether to keep going and whether it will help keep my supply up?
thanks

Not too sure, but it does help with supply, so I could see why she said that, but would also be a pain in the bum! I just bf and give a bottle of ebm once in a while, but when I feed her the bottle I pump soon after to keep up.

Hiya,

I've been exclusively expressing for 2weeks now because of thrush and cracked nips that won't heal. I don't put lo to the breast because it's too painful. I just express after he feeds from milk that I've previously expressed. That said, I started at 4 weeks so maybe my supply was becoming established already - I'm also taking fenugreek. How old's your lo?

x

2 and half weeks old, but ws born at 34weeks so he still little!

What I would do is put LO to the breast often to help build and establish supply, then go with expressing if you wish. The best way to keep supply going in by baby, not pump but if you get your supply going good I think you should be fine, as long as you continue to pump after each feed :)

I pump while baby is eating the last breastmilk I expressed then when he finishes that he is still hungry so I top him off with formula. He gets the best of both worlds.

x2. I couldn't put Lo to the breast (birth injury) so I expressed, and my supply eventually became poor as the LO can stimulate you (physically, mentally, emotionally) so much better. If you can physically put LO to the breast, do it as often as you can, especially because LO is so young.

Good luck, I know it is so hard, especially with complications from the birth, but it will pay off I promise!!
