I've put my 5 week old onto aptamil comfort last night after trying infacol then colief with not much success. He's not done a poo yet today and still seems in pain when passing wind and his farts smell horrendous! How long before the comfort formula starts to work?

When i switched milk i was advised to give it up to three weeks to properly see results. Hope it works for you, we're just trying colief today x

Thanks! We found the colief made our baby poo about 12 times a day! We reduced the amount of drops we put in to 2 but he was still going all day long. Hope it works for you though.

comfort milk can take about 2weeks the take effect. although i have no experience of aptimal comfort and ds didn't suit aptimal, so we changed to cow and gate.

Thanks for your advice. What made you switch? Having a horrendous night and wondering if the comfort formula is actually making him worse than the normal stuff.

ds cut down the amount of milk he drank to a bear minimum. i was convinced he was still hungry and was at the endof my tether, so wanted to try anything. bought carton of ready mixed c&g not comfort and change was huge.

comfort milk by cow and gate is compatible with standard cow and gate, therefore tried comfort and it was obvious he didn't like aptimal.

I exclusively expressed for the first 3 weeks then gradually went onto SMA Gold as I couldn't carry on. She went 3 days without a poo even though she was straining and lifting her legs up and was clearly distressed. Previously she'd been going 8-10 times a day. We changed to Aptamil Comfort and she improved immediately :) Touch wood she's never had any problems since.

We give Sam standard Aptamil and until Monday was giving him Infacol for what we thought was bad trapped wind. He would cry out in pain pulling his legs up, trashing his arms about and go red it the face and then the smallest little trump would come. He had a dirty nappy on Saturday afternoon and still hadn't had another by Monday at 6pm, so i took him to the doctors. They said that sometimes the infacol givens them constipation and to put 2 teaspoons of demerara sugar in 4oz of cooled boiled water. Tried it when we got home and he had 3 dirty nappies on monday night even though the poo was little hard rocks.

If he doesn't get regular or it doesn't get softer i'm going to try the comfort milk, the doctor did say it could help, just don't ask my grandma as the only reason he's constipated is because he's not bf!!

We were using SMA Gold but DS was being sick and seemed to have trapped wind. We used infacol a few times but it made him throw his feed up so we stopped using that.

HV suggested comfort milk and Dentinox drops. We switched to Cow & Gate Comfort Milk and noticed an improvement straight away. We also used the dentinox drops for a few days but have now stopped using them. The milk seems to have made a big difference
