i thought i would get this dicussion going as i have not found one that touches on some of the sencitive issues of artificial insemination or AI if you preffer.

me and my partner are trying to concieve through AI at the moment and after researching hundreds of sites i have many answer but also some still not answered.

maybe i could help others at the same time as answering a few of my own questions.

hi, i am using ivi also. This month will be my second cycle.
when you mean transporting the sperm what do you mean? where from and to?

My husband always produces his sample at the office. The thought of transporting stresses me out. So, we just do it at the office. We go in, he produces the sample, we go get coffee and come back for the IUI an hour later. It seems to work out well.

Different doctors have different theories though on how long you can have the sperm to transport. I would specifically ask your doctor if you are wanting to produce the sample at home and take it into the doctor.

hi we are having a private donor as we are a lesbian couple and intend to have it as personal as poss the sperm should be AI within 90 min as it can only live outside the body for that long. i have now been told by a expert to collect the fresh sperm and draw it into the syringes straight away before my journy home to AI my partner.

Nettyandsade - as I understand it, what you can do is freeze and then defreeze and use but if you want to use fresh sperm -and I can't agree any more, it is the type with the best results- then time is indeedof the essence from what I read. Maybe you can arrange for your donor to well... spend the night at your place or if he's the less romantic type, simply visit and use the bathroom.

thanks well our donor is fresh but lives about 25 min drive from us hi does not have are details or were we live as its a special donor sate that helps anyone and some donors dont want to be known and so on we have done one AI alredy as a practice run and went well as did run and from the sperm sample to doing the AI on my misses it took 27 min i just hope thats good enough as we start for reall week after next as she is due on this week. fingers crossed .

27 mins sounds good enough, still far better odds than with frozen.

Not sure I understand the technicality with the donor, is this private but not a friend as I presumed but so to speak... unregistered? In that case have you had the donor tested and the sperm tested as well? And what are your thoughts on the potential siblings related problems down the road?

I think that missAma is right - although I am sure you have looked into this - of course you will want to be sure that your donor is disease free and has viable sperm.

It sounds like you already know what you are doing with the home insemination - but I saw this website - might help? I agree that 27 minutes sounds brilliant. I think you will have lots of healthy sperm still after that much time.

oh yes me and my partner have been checked already and confirmed same with doner and was all clear so my and my partner are planning on having one more each with the same doner we joined a sperm donor site and its all done through messages and so on until you arrange to meet for collection. that way we are all happy and agree with the plans.

Hi there,

I'm new to BnB and happy to see the AI section. I'm single and trying to get pregnant using frozen donor sperm. So far I've had 7 unsuccessful IUI's, and am in the 2ww right now (3 dpo). And waiting, waiting, waiting. If this cycle is a bust its on to IVF for me.

Sorry, I don't know much about transporting fresh sperm since my clinic takes care of all transportation issues. But fresh sperm are pretty hardy and live quite a while outside of the body - so your chances are so much better. Good luck!!

sooo frustratin we are on 10th day past AI being done and she is now 2 days late for the but done two preg tests and both

so now i really am confused as never had this before

oh well if the has still not showed up by mon then gonna do another test.

The advice given to you is wrong. You should wait 30 minutes after ejaculation by the donor before you attempt to use a syringe to suck it up. The sperm needs 30 mins to change into a liquid which is more able to withstand the stresses that occur when it is sucked up inside the syringe.

how frustrating is this its my parner sade who is having our next baby then im having another one for us after sade has given birth and the baby is all ok.
we have both been doing ovs though so i can see when my peaks are so im ready for when the time comes.. ok here is the story i had a normal 5 day period and did my first ovt on day 14 got a poss i have done one every day since and had all poss im now on day 20 and still poss even did a clear blue dig ov test to make sure i was not seeing things and that had smilie face on witch is poss. but sade still not poss and she is on day 15 of her cycle today.
im sooooooo confused is it eben poss to ov for so long.
