hi im a qualified carer and hairdresser and am due to go back to work at the nursing home in june. i ideally want to work there 2 days a week but also do some hairdressing in my spare time (not much) but what kind of tax would i be looking at paying for the hairdressing?

thanks in advance xx

It would depend on how much in total you get paid, if your yearly income is less than £6400 or something like that you don't pay tax but if you go over that I think it is based on the extra per year that you are earning, last year I finished at uni in the summer so only worked full-time from October to the following tax year in April and because I only made just over £8000 in that time I only paid a small amount of tax for the whole 'year'.

this is correct!!

You will get taxed via your payroll from the care home so it will be adjusted when you reduce your hours.

If you do hair dressing and get cash in hand, you are classed as self employed and need to declare this to the HMRC and do a tax return each year.

If you work through a hairdressing place who take off tax and NI tax code , I think thetax office will put the 2 together and work out a single tax code.
