I am breastfeeding my baby from the first day. He is now 35-days old. But I think that he is not getting enough milk. His weight has increased only a little. I am giving him formula two-times a day from yesterday. Do you think that it will harm him? Please give me suggestions what to do.

you will hear different opinions on this. Some people refuse to supplement at all costs which can be dangerous. what does your dr say about his weight? have you tried supplements to increase your supply?

the formula will not hurt him. especially if he needs it to gain weight

Giving him the formula is fine, it won't hurt him at all. I'd probably make sure you pump after those two feeding though if you're not already if you plan on continuing to breastfeed. If your supply isn't enough for him ,skipping two feedings on the breast will make that worse. You can also take Fenugreek or another suppliment like that to increase your supply. Did the pediatrician say his weight gain wasn't enough?

Well my daughter was 5lb4oz at birth. at her one month check up she had only gained two pounds. She got both formula and breast milk. Some babies just don't gain that fast and are small. as long as she is gaining and having the appropriate amount of wet and dirty diapers I would say that you are fine. But on the other hand if you want to supplement a couple of bottles a day it won't hurt either. Its what ever is best for your baby and family at the time.

my suggestion would be to go chat to the girls in the BF forum to help you get over the supply issues- they are full of really helpful tips- but formula will not harm your child at all if you chose to use it.
