We chose Moira (MOI: ra) Lynn as the name for our incoming Princess.

Moira is the anglicized form of the Irish name Máire ( MOI: ra). Which is just the Irish form of Mary.

I am getting tired of people telling me my name choice is of some other orgin. But I am considering just changing it to Máire to stop them. I am love both forms, But I prefer Moira.

Should I just ignore them, seeing as they apparently can't bother to do the name research, or drop it. OR should I change the spelling to the unanglicized version?

Use the name you love, stick to your guns. It's a lovely name

I like the spelling Moira better honestly. Ppl will get over it. Not their child to name anyway. That's something that bugs me when someone announces their baby name and ppl start criticizing it, not their place to do so! Sorry, not meaning to rant but that's why I don't plan on sharing our baby names when our children are in their way.

Stick to your guns. When she's born people won't be bothering to look into the name origins anyway. I don't think anyone has ever asked me about the origins of my girls names and one of them is 5

where are people saying its from?

Moira can be Irish or Scottish (which makes sense they are both very similar languages with similar sounds) although I tend to think Irish

if you have a slightly unusual name people do - my middle name is only 1 letter of a common standard name (and I use to go by my middle name in high school because the was a few Alisons) but I got asked at least 5 times a day as to the origin

what bugs me more is I dont have a bloody answer lol no idea where it came from their are similar names from multiple countries but no 'offical' name that matches

I just use to tell people it the common spelling of the closest name to get around being asked

I have heard Greece and Israel and Scotland. I don't mind the Scotland as much for the reasons you have listed.
