I need advice. I have been very constipated, and yesterday I called the doctor and the nurse said to use a glycerin suppository and take miralax.

So yesterday I did the suppository but had minimal results. I also took the miralax. This morning I took some more miralax, and I decided to do another suppository. I had a very very painful but more successful bowel movement. I felt better. Until now. I've been eating throughout the day and now I feel so full, bloated and constipated. I did not gorge myself at all today, and I ate good stuff that I thought would not make me constipated.

I'm so frustrated. I know constipation is part of being pregnant, but should I be so constipated that I can't even eat!?!

I am also taking metamucil and have been for about 2 weeks.

I'm debating doing another suppository. I have to go back to work tomorrow, and I don't want to be miserable.

Advice Please!!!

I am going through the exact same thing you are. I even ended up in the emergency room last night for severe abdominal cramping from constipation. I was told Metamucil first and if that doesn't work, then Milk of Magnesia. So far, I've had minimal results, and I've also had the feeling of a really bad stomach ache all day long.

How much Metamucil do you take a day?

Jennifer, I've been taking two heaping spoonfuls in a glass of juice every morning. Today I decided to increase to two glasses a day and see if that works. Just make sure you drink a lot of fluids while taking it because I think it could have opposite effect if you don't.

Did the hospital do anything else for you? An enema or suppository? From what I've researched metamucil will not break down any stool that is already dry and hard.

It's so frustrating. All I can find is " eat more fiber," but I think Ive still got problems with existing stool blocking things up. I'm afraid to do too many suppositories though. I just don't know what to do...

are you drinking enough water? Because if you take a lot of fiber without drinking enough fluids the fiber will have the opposite effect.
Plus try walking or exercising some how that will help with bowel movements :)
Eat tons of prunes, natural laxatives.

hi ladies i experienced this twice so far and it's just awful. i'm hungry and i don't want to eat cause i'm hurting. but water is the trick for sure!!! drink tons of water throughout the day and keep yourself hydrated, have juice, lemonade and what not. just keep drinking !! that should do the trick and also eat smaller meals. i've learned to do that the last 2 weeks and so far it's working. i know when i indulge myself i will hurt later on.

Lindsey, the hospital really focused on the pregnancy and not on the constipation. They checked my blood, urine, and did an ultrasound. Everything was thankfully okay there. They never gave me anything for the constipation, though. I'm still not really regular either.

I'll try more water, though! I'm nervous to try the Milk of Magnesia. I don't like putting myself in that position, but then again, who does? LOL

when I was pregnant I ate prunes for dessert and stuff and I drank prune juice...

I found if you can tolerate it a full 8 ounce of prune juice a day really does help out ...yhou need to do this every day though....and eat prunes as well...

btw I found fiber gummies in the pharmacy i love them im hoping when i become pregnant they will help me as I have a problem and i just dont want to be that horrible when pregnant..

the fiber gummies are yummy and at the moment they do help with my constipation problem...i need to remember to take them every day with an 8 ounce glass of something to drink or they stop working....
