Tomorrow morning I have an appointment at the hospital with the consultant. I should be asleep but instead I'm lay here worrying about what to expect?

I'm on the larger side of life and I just know this is going to be a problem for them! I was losing weight then I suddenly fell pregnant ( after trying for many many years, docs telling me it wouldn't happen etc) I have also suffered with depression, self harmed and over dosed in the past but not for 5 years now. All over my green notes it mentions my depression etc! Why?

Anyway I understand not everyone sees a consultant. But thoughs that have good you help ease my mind please.

Thanks.

What consultant? Is is a mental health proffessional or a neonatologist?

The reason you've got depression plastered over your notes is that women with previous history of depression (especially self harm) are at a higher risk of post natal depression and antenatal depression. And postnatal depression is a huge killer of first time mothers.

I have no idea what consultant, it just says antenatal - obstetrical on the letter. I figure that's for weight?
I'm just terrified that they are going to want to get people involved with me and baby. I had reasons to be depressed in the past, and it's been years since I've had any problems.

Ah well will find out in an hour.

Thanks

I've seen a consultant both oregnancies and both times its been due to my weight so may well be that. Try not to worry and hope it goes ok :) also im sure they'll be very understanding about your past history xx

I also live in Coventry and due to see a Consultant at the University hospital next month because I am classed as an older Mum!

My mw advised that they will refer to a Consultant in cases where they feel that input from a Consultant is advisable...(weight/age/medical history etc)

You may then be Consultant led or mw led until delivery depending on the outcome of the appointment.

I hope it goes well :)

Well that was pointless. They didn't mention my mental health history. To be honest I couldn't tell you what it was about, they didn't really say much, the appointment lasted 5 minutes if that. I could barely understand him too cause he spoke to fast lol. I have to see them again at 28 weeks.
Thanks for your replies ladies

I think they just do it all to scare you. All pointless really. As if we don't already know the risks of being overweight or mental illness etc etc. Just silly to send people for a 5 minute appointment

i had consultant with my second as i had severe pre e in labour an on antidepressants. I am similar this preg an have apoint on tues when ill be 14+3. Same again depression an high bp. I am also just in right weight for my unit. Basicly they tell you wht the plan is for preg etc. I also see phicaiatrist about my meds and shes suggested a cpn as were higher risk of pnd whick lukcly i didnt have with last 2. I find hard conect with pregnancy. I ended up with extra scans an you see consultant as well as mw so more apoints. So am classed under red pathway an my unit norm does green pathway but i hope can have here an not hosp 2.5 hrs away. hope goes well an plz update if you wish

Some maternity units like to add a bit of spice to your pregnancy and send you to the consultant. Didn't realise when you said consultant you meant obgyn.
