contraception after pregnancy/birth?

No worries hun! I'm not trying to argue either at all :hugs:

I don't prefer hormonal methods due to side-effects, long term and short. But the copper IUD paraguard is what I have been using and it works for over 10 years I believe.
Yeah, I've read online numerous stories of people getting pregnant on nuvaring but I guess the same can be said for every other method as well.

I am on the pill again, a different one though as I did have mood swings quite badly with the last one.

I will make sure that I ome off it a year before we start TTC again if we do, as I kow it can take up to a year to come out of your system. x

GIRLS- don't listen to anyone who tells you that birth control can give you breast cancer or anything crazy like that!!! not trying to start an argument, but that is absolute bullshit. i worked for planned parenthood for two years in the birth control education department so i promise i know what i'm talking about- there are SOO many different ways to protect yourself (both hormonal methods AND barrier methods) and not one method is the "best", so to speak. it's all about personal preference. some methods (when used consistently and correctly) work better than others (and for the person who said VCF 'works better than birth control' - first of all, VCF is a spermicide, which is a form of birth control. second of all, percentage wise, it is less effective than the pill or any other hormonal method, although still about 75% effective when used consistently and correctly).

i'm not at all trying to be a bitch, it's just that it's my job to know the facts and i really believe that all girls have a right to be educated on all forms of birth control, without any of the bullshit that gets spread between girls who don't know what they are talking about. the fact is, mistakes can happen no matter what kind of BC you're on. abstinence is the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy, but that's just not realistic for any of us. we all are pregnant, so clearly we know what got us to this point and we should all be smart enough to protect ourselves in the future. personally, OH and I don't plan on being pregnant again for about 5 years (which was the original plan, but we were obviously a bit too careless).

as for me, i have been on the pill before (wasn't too great at taking it every day), so won't be doing that again. i will definitely be getting the implant (it's called implanon- it's a plastic rod that sits in your bloodstream under the skin. it's unnoticeable to others)

*steps off soap box* sorry if i've offended anyone, really that is not my intention!!! i just can't stand the spread of false information about birth control. if you have any questions about methods, feel free to ask me, but everyone should definitely check out this website. it's really helpful about all the different kinds of BC, their effectiveness, and such: https://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control-4211.htm

I personally don't want to go on anything, mainly because I cherish my fertility and don't want to risk anything messing it up, nor do I fancy the ones such as the pill, implant etc. because studies have shown that women who use hormonal contraceptions are more likely to get breast cancer than those who do not.

Me and OH are just using condoms and if we don't have them, we don't do it - simple. Although I had to take the morning after pill twice, because both times we had sex we weren't in a good state of mind for making practical decisions. I feel utter shite over taking that. Proper disgusting. (not having a go at anyone who has, just my own feelings on it).

So it's either condoms or nowt. However, OH has told me about something called natural family planning. As a Catholic he knows about it because it is a contraception method approved by his religion. It does not abort babies, nor does it used things like condoms etc. Basically it calculates your most fertile times of the month and makes you aware of the symptoms your body tells you, letting you know you are fertile. You avoid sex around this time, and since you can tell when you are fertile, you can avoid sex when you feel that way. Any other time you can have sex without using anything and be 97% protected - the same as condoms!

i respect your OH's religion, although the 'natural family planning' thing is sort of similar to how me an OH conceived. we knew my fertile times and made sure we used protection then, and when i wasn't fertile we were more relaxed about it. we did not take in to account however, sperm stays in the woman for up to 7 days, so i ended up pregnant.
i understand this method for older women, but as this is a teen forum, there are young girls here who should not read about this method as they can be naive and trust it, and become pregnant again when they're not in a family or ready for another child.

People can read about what I have said all over the net and in books. I am not telling people to do that, I am saying this is what I am doing.
I did also say condoms or nothing. I am relying on condoms and that method. So please do not say anything about my choice in contraception. I made no remarks on yours and won't - it's called personal opinion and choice for a reason :flower:

certain birth controls can give you breast cancer or harm your fertility in the long run.

sorry...... but i have never heard something quite so BULLSHIT as that.
the pill gives you breast cancer. oh my daaaayss. please, don't go around saying that especially in a teen forum.
and maybe stop reading the daily mail too, i heard that seeing a willy can make you blind, too.

You seem to be very opinionated and judgemental of other people's choices, it is rather unattractive personality wise.
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, remember that.

And fyi
Current research suggests that women who use hormonal contraception, such as the implant or injection, appear to have a slightly higher risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer compared with women who do not use hormonal contraception. Further research is ongoing. For more information, read the 1996 study by Chilvers.

So yes, what she said is true, unless our health professionals are wrong too :)

Thats also called the calendar method. The problem with it is that sometimes your cycle gets messed up for one reason or another, and you are fertile during a time that you otherwise wouldn't be. I would recommend using fertility tests (you can usually find them near condoms, etc) so that you can be on the safer side. For girls in the US, it would be similar to the cost of birth control pills.

Desi I can't believe how far along you are! Not long now :)

Yeaah I would not be using that method on its own. I would be using that method and condoms. Its just like someone using the pill and condoms "just in case".

I see nothing wrong with doing it that way, nor should anyone tell me I cannot post something because girls on here are apparently naive and will try it and end up pregnant. Imo, that means that the person who criticised me doesn't have a high regard for younger members and believes them to be easily impressionable.

Its not like they will go "this persons using the pill/coil/implant/injection" etc. I MUST use that. Its all swings and roundabouts.

I know!! I cant believe your LO is 2 months old. Its really crazy how time has been flying. He's so cute btw!!

I agree, to each their own. Besides, no matter what you use, there is always a chance of pregnancy if your having sex. And people that are reading this thread, well I would imagine they are probably pregnant already and will have this discussion with their doctor/MW after the baby arrives.

Aww thanks :D he'll be 3 months a week today :cloud9:
Yeah, too each their own, swings and roundabouts etc.etc. :)
