Hi ladies,

Has anybody experienced contractions at 17 weeks?

I've been feeling a bit "off" for a few days with period type pains and a little bleeding. I was just putting it down to a low lying placenta and things moving and stretching but tonight I had a scan. The doctor said the top of my placenta was supposed to be smooth but mine was dented which meant I've been having contractions.

She's put me on tablets for two weeks and doesn't seem too worried but I'm absolutely pooping myself with worry now!! Has anybody experienced similar please?

The doc did also say this could cause me to lose the baby which is probably why I'm panicking so much.

Hopefully the tablets will keep the contractions away, so any sign of discomfort I'd call your midwife incase it's contractions etc.

Just make sure anything that bothers you, tell the midwife basically.

Sorry I haven't had any experience in early contractions xxx

I've no idea about having contractions this early, I'm so sorry your going through this but I agree that if your worried and in any pain I'd give your MW a quick call.

Good luck :hugs:

The uterus starts contracting very early in pregnancy, if not from the start or even when not pregnant, you just can't feel it. I have had bh contractions from about 19 weeks, my mother in law said she had these contractions from very early on, and I know several other ladies who have had early bh contractions. Did your doc say if they are bh contractions or premature labor contractions? If she didn't specify, I'd say they are bh contractions and perfectly normal. I don't think you should worry at all, unless your doc is worried about them.

Hopefully the tablets will work and if the Dr didn't seem too concerned that must be a good sign xx

I've been having contractions since 21 weeks and I've had multiple scans to check up on baby and the contractions don't seem to be doing much, not dilated at all and I'm now almost 31 weeks!

The night of my 20week us I had lots of painful contractions and bh too. They went away with water and rest. My mw checked urine and I had a uti so there could be a reason. I am still on progesterone so I suspect that is contributing at times too. (I still get both on occassion.) my mw said not to worry unless rest/water don't help then call.

If the contractions aren't dilating you, then it's possible you have an Irritable Uterus (these contractions are real, by the way, not BH). I had one last pregnancy, and again this time, starting with contractions at 8 weeks this pregnancy! I carried my last pregnancy to 36 weeks and my baby was perfectly healthy, though the contractions often made it hard to know whether I was in labor or not.

Hope you're feeling okay!

Yikes, scary! Make sure you drink a TON of ester to keep hydrated and take it easy! No running marathons or anything. Hope those tablets work, prayers for you and baby.

Thanks for your advice ladies.

I don't think it's BH as the doctor put me on tablets and as far as I'm aware they don't do that for BH.

Unfortunately, I live abroad too and there's on,y one midwife in the country so I really have nobody to call.

I never thought pregnancy would be so hard and terrifying!!
