My baby is nearly 2 weeks old and over the past couple of days she's had really bad constipation and squeals everytime she passes a poop which isn't often.

Unfortunately when she was in hospital we fed her aptamil but I had bought cow and gate at home without realising but we didn't think much of it and just fed her that when we came out of hospital about 3 days after. She was ok for a day or two but suddenly become very bunged up and couldn't poop without a real struggle. We tried water, rubbing her belly, warm baths, moving her legs in a bicycle motion. Nothing seemed to work.

Now we have switched to Cow and Gate Comfort for constipated babies but she doesn't seem to like the taste of it and only drinks the teeniest bit. This is a real concern to me as she drinks a lot of the normal Cow and Gate but I'm afraid that swapping the milks all the time isn't good for her either.

Will she ever get used to the Cow and Gate comfort?

Does anyone have the same problem or have any advice about this? :nope:

how long is it she has been on the comfort milk? mine is constipated too but he was on hungrier baby, we have just changed him to comfort and he drinks it fine, although i id notice you need to really shake this milk alot more as it dosnt dissolve as well and can bung the teat up a bit meaning he gets annoyed with it. we only started on it yesterday and he didnt poo yesterday so im hoping he will today on it. my friend changed to comfort milk (cow and gate) and said within one day it had solved the constipation and within 2 days it had stopped the colic. she also said it took her 2/3 days to get used to the consistancy of the new milk. she said its thicker but i think it looks thinner, either way it would take a few days.

Its probably beacuse its thicker it'll take more getting used to not the taste as they all taste almost the same as they have to stick to the same ingredients.

Tbh, sounds like you arnt making the milk up correctly. What size teat are you using? And are you making it with HOT boiled water? It can take upto 2weeks to take effect as well.

i have the same problem iv swapped from normal cow n gate to the comfort one and shes hardly drank anything of it and it looks thinner to me but the tub says its thicker, im making it with boiled water and putting in a scoop per oz and shaking well. im using number 1 teats am i doing something wrong?? baby seems 2 get annoyed with it after about an oz and starts struggling and crying. any advice would be great xxx

You need to go up a teat size. We used vari flow. Also, the hotter the water the better it mixes so i wouldnt wait the full half hour, 10-20mins worked best for us x

I agree, we had to go up to variflow teats as the milk is thicker, it doesn't fit through size one teats. Your LO probably isn't physically able to get enough out- we had that exact problem. Also it says that because this milk tastes more bitter rather than sweet like the other formula.,(tried a bit myself haha) like it can take LO a while to get used to it :) try it a while longer, it takes them a while to settle with new milk and changing them often isn't the best idea either. We used it for Laylas colic but for us that didn't help so after a few weeks we went back to normal cow and gate and she outgrew the colic on her own. The milk is definitely thicker and it will take your LO a few days to probably get used to it and for any effect to be noticed.
