Cow & Gate 2 for hungier babies teat size?

Hi

My little boy is 6 weeks old but i have gone onto the stage 2 hungrier baby milk as he goes through so much formula a day but he is still on the 1st size teats for 0+ (avent bottles) but as this milk is thicker should i be using the size 2 teats?

Generally, when you switch you should go up one teat size. You could try a variflow instead if you prefer. If he's happy with the stage 1 teats you could stick with them for now, but keep an eye out for symptoms that he needs to increase - taking ages, playing with the bottle, falling asleep etc.

We have the tommee tippee bottles withe variflow teats and I find the HBF clogs the holes up, the next stage isn't suitable until 3months!! Its hard because Hope gets so annoyed that nothing is coming out!

I changed the teat when I tasted the bottle one day and couldn't get anything out! I had wondered why she was crying & refusing her bottle, my poor baby must've had some sucking reflex to get her milk out, I changed to level 2 and she wasn't working as hard to get the milk out, she was much more satisfied.

It shouldn't be possible for a variflow to get clogged. It's more likely that the valve is stuck closed, which creates a vacuum and stops the milk flow. Try squeezing the valve on the inside of the teat and try again - it should then be fine!

we used hungry with dr browns - carried on with stage 1 teats, fine, no problems x
