For those of you who had babies in CPAP, how long was your little one on it and was he/she on it consistently or with trial periods off?

When our son was born 3 weeks ago, he was put on CPAP for a day, then taken off and put on jut high flow. He went back on CPAP after a day...stayed in for 3 more days and then has another trial period off. This time he was off for 4 days before they put him back on (was having many spells off it). The nurse said that he still showed improvement because he stayed off for longer. When he was put back on CPAP this last time, the doc said they'd try it for a bit longer before taking him off again. Now it's been almost 2 weeks. The number of spells has decreased from 20+ per day to half that, with many being self-correcting and not needing nurse intervention

Last week his medical team switched over (this is a teaching hospital too -but w a NICU w an amazing reputation) and the new Fellow Doctor has a very different philosophy. He said that he'll keep our son on CPAP until he's only having 2-3 spells per day...a very different philosophy to what we'd had with the last medical team. So I was curious to find out more about other people's experiences...

Oh hun! We sound like we've had a similar journey!!! I had a SCH diagnosed at 8 weeks, but it never resolved. Went into labour at 27+6 and had him at 29 weeks. He was on CPAP for 7 weeks from memory and then High flow for one week. I think our hospital had a similar philosophy to your new doctor :)

My daughter was on CPAP for 3 weeks (born at 29w5d). They trialed her off of it after 2 weeks and she went back on after a couple of hours. They tried again a few days later and she lasted about 4 hours. Then they said we will leave it for a week, but after 5 days she pulled it off and was fine so they left it off and it never went back on.

Our son, born 30+3 was on CPAP for 7 days. Once taken off he was never put back on it even though he continued to have Brady's. We took him home at 34+5.

Mine went from ventilator to cpap then to vapotherm then to nothing.

Both of my boys were on CPAP shortly after being born (neither one of them were ventilated). They had no trial periods off of it, and went straight to low-flow oxygen from CPAP, and then room air.

My son (29+1) was on Cpap for about 5 or 6 weeks, then high flow then low flow. He came home from hospital on oxygen for about 5 months, slowly weaned.

We went straight onto Cpap, then high flow, then cpap then high flow, then low flow then infection so high flow. It does depend on the team in my experience and it's a two steps forward one step back process.
