Hi ladies

Had a bit of a crap day with Alex, just need to vent a bit.

We went to a toddler friend's 2nd birthday party today, and as it was sunny, it was held out in the little boy's garden. Sounds great, yea, but not when you have a soon to be 2 year old who NEVER WALKS, ONLY RUNS (and often falls as a result) and the grass in the garden was edged with raised bricks. It was hot, and he wouldn't stay still for a second. He was running round and round and nearly smashed into the edging I don't know how many times - it's only because my H and I tail him everywhere that we manage to catch him before he hits the deck. It was sooo stressful. He's never interested in playing with the toys, just running here, there and everywhere. And of course he doesn't like it one bit when you try to curtail him!

All the other kids, around the same age, were soooo placid in comparison. They were just milling about, playing with toys, and there's Alex circling everyone at top speed and then falling about everywhere like a drunk man!

We ended up leaving early because he was getting so worked up and, also, we could feel some of the other parents staring at us as we tried to contain our wee dynamo.

Alex is our world, full of beans and such a clever boy too. I wouldn't change him for the world, but oh my goodness sometimes I just wish he would chill out a bit now and again at things like this!!!

Anyone else have a kid that's just a bit nuts like Alex?

Laura x

:hugs: Big hugs!

Mine's not so on the go but he's very emotional and just not laid back or easy going.

We had to take him home early from a friend's wedding on Thursday cos he was just so overwhelmed by it all and was heading into major meltdown. Luckily my in laws were having him so we got to go back but he missed his meal which had been paid for. Even worse there were younger kids than him partying away into night and even 1 he goes to nursery with who were all fine with it all. Felt really pathetic when people asked where he was!

Reading this made me chuckle! I feel your pain, we had the same situation at a 2nd birthday party a few weeks ago but luckily we didn't have to leave early.

He has 2 speeds sleeping and full speed ahead! :)

yep!!! my son doesnt know how to keep still and at parties, restaurants, other peoples houses its exhausting but i wouldnt change him for the world as my grandmother keeps telling me at least u know hes healthy if he was sitting still doing nothing ud worry then. dont worry what others think!!

My lo is like this we really can't blink as he's so clumsy at the same time. We took him to a party recently and he just chased a ball for an hour but he just wont stay still for any food he wants to be on the go constantly it can be quite frustrating.

Isla is only now calming down a little bit but I know this situation quite well. I feel for you. :hugs:

Tyler used to be exactly the same, before going anywhere I used to have to think if it was suitable to take him. He's almost 4 now and he's such a pleasure to take out now,Ok of he sees something exciting then off he goes but I let him have a little bit more freedom I trust him to come back to me (though I'm never far away from him). When he was younger I could never had imagined that he would grow up to be like this and I'm so glad he has. Everyone loves watching him run around as you can just see the excitement of him exploring in his little face.

I know it very hard right now but it won't go on forever x

Had a similar experience recently.

2nd Birthday party in the garden. Any new place, be it a garden or someones house just fuels my los dynamo.

All the other toddlers were placid and milling about playing. Mine was rampant.

Oh and then they all sat in a circle for pass the parcel. All good as gold apart from my lo who couldn't grasp the concept of being given a present only to have to give it away to the child next to him. Result, a full on meltdown with the other toddlers and parents looking at us in total disgust. I had a little weep on the way home, so stressfull and embarrassing.

:hugs: It will probably get better/easier as he gets older - Charlie had a phase like that too :flow:
