im a single mum and want to start to make a career for myself was thinking of doing a first aid course and getting a crb check so i could do some babysitting work.

does anyone know how much a crb check is? and what first aid course would be best

Think the costs are roughly -
£26 – standard CRB check
£44 – enhanced CRB check

Not 100% sure tho as I didnt pay for mine x

You can't actually apply for a CRB check yourself, it has to be done through an employer (with the added benefit that they will usually pay for it).

what you can do is apply for a basic criminal records disclosure through Disclosure Scotland (this is not available through the CRB) - Disclosure Scotland provide this service to anyone in the UK, but as the name suggests, it only contains basic information. It costs £25.

If you go on the St John's Ambulance website you can look at the training courses they have available....I think you will probably need to go for Paediatric First Aid??

To work with children you need to do a Paediatric first aid course.

Im pretty sure if you are babysitting for anyone other than family/friends,and you are being paid, you need to be registered as a childminder which is much more difficult than it used to be.I think you have to have a recognised qualification, such as an NVQ in Childcare, and then you have to have your home inspected by OFSTED too.Plus, you would need to register as self employed too,and then you could get your CRB too.

Im not sure though so dont go of what I say x
