Hello all, I have been TTC for almost 2 years now and am just starting to through all the fertility tests. Unfortunately, we do not qualify for the crieteria for IVF or ICI as DH has two children from a previous marriage - totally unfair but dont get me started!!!

I have read that we also have to meet a criteria for fertility drugs - does this included clomid? Are there any ladies who's partner/or they have children that have been prescribed clomid on the NHS?

Thanks ladies xx

I am pretty certain that the criteria are different. They certainly are in Sussex where the social criteria doesn't apply for clomid (age/children). I think the criteria they refer to are about weigth, whether you ovulate or not at all, whether there are any contradications etc... What they might have meant is you also wouldn't be able to get funding for the stimulation drugs for ivf (GP used to prescribe but are now not supposed to, although few very sympathetic GPs are prepared to do this against the recommendations of their PCT).

I know how you feel. My partner and I will need to go for icsi because of his low swimmers, yet we are not elligible for funding because I have children already. Seems very unfair to him but that's how it is.

Thank you. I am hoping that it wont come to IVF but I think sometimes its best to research these things at an early time. I think its such a shame that there is such a harsh cut off point for IVF. Maybe if they did it on a sliding scale say, if one partner has children then the number of free cycles reduces with each child they have and if both parties have children then no free cycles are allowed.

Anyway, not much point in moaning as like you say thats the way it is. Better get saving just in case!!

well lets hope you dont need to worry about any of that :) my FS mentioned IVF and smoking in our first visit (OH is a smoker) and then she said "but anyway theres a long way to go before we'd even consider IVF so lets not worry about that now."

good luck!

I think you can get clomid if you can show you need it basically!
So if you don't ov or have long cycles...

I got it because of late ov and long cycles, and I have been ttc less than a year.
