Hi ladies I'm hoping someone can help me. I went for a scan today and have been told our baby has Cystic Hygroma due to the amount if fluid on the babies neck and have been offered a CVS test where they take some of the placenta and send it off for testing.

I have never come across this before myself, I have had two pervious losses and this was our rainbow baby.

The nurses in EPU were almost preparing us for the worst and told me worst case scenario is baby won't make it. I'm feeling crushed and don't know what to think or do. If anyone can offer any advise I their experience of this I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm 10 weeks 6 days pregnant and have a follow up scan with the consultant next week to see if the fluid has increased, decreased or stayed the same.

Feeling so anxious, thank you in advance xxxx

Here is a picture of bubs showing the fluid...

Hugs to you.

Sorry I have not had experience with that diagnosis...

I did have CVS testing with my first pregnancy which resulted in stillbirth (unrelated to the CVS testing).

When you have the testing done my best advice it to go to a hospital that does them often to prevent complications.

:hugs:

Hi I had this with my 3rd pregnancy about 6 years ago, I had the cvs done sadly the results weren't good and I lost my girl at 17 weeks, but a lot of hygromas can disappear and babies can turn out fine I spoke to lots of women and researched a lot at the time and a lot of outcomes were positive!
Unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones, good luck Hun and I hope your little one is fine I'm here if u need to talk xx

Thank you both for you replies. I've been researching as much as I can but keep going round in circles really. I don't think my odds are great given that I've had two previous losses too, so I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst I suppose

What is the CVS test like, I'm really frightened at the moment xxx

How far gone are u? Cvs can be done either through the tummy or vaginally, I had mine through the tummy, it was more uncomfortable than painful I've had 3 cvs done with my pregnancies that came after I needed to know that the same thing wasn't happening again, so I guess it couldn't have been to bad other wise I wouldn't have asked for it 2 more times...

They'll put a local anesthetic in the skin with a needle, this didn't do much as it only numbs the surface skin so u still feel the needle as it passes through the muscle and uterus, they then take samples you'll feel like a digging pulling sensation, it's not pleasant but I didn't find it too bad.

The consultant made me count to ten slowly then the needle was out, she showed me my baby after that all was well and that was it I rested after, had no pain or bleeding after, preliminary results were back after 3 days then 10 days after for the full result, although this may vary from hospital to hospital...

I'm so sorry your going through this, there are no words, but you will find the strength and there are a lot of positive stories.

The fluid on your baby is smaller than mine was fingers crossed for u xxx

Thank you for the insight lovely. I will be 11 +5 on Tuesday when I have the CVS done.y scan picture is from 10 +6 weeks, I have no idea what the fluid measurement is as they didn't tell me and I didn't know to ask at the time.
I'm holding on to the small hope we have that maybe we are one of the lucky ones.

I'm sorry for your loss but thank you so much for sharing your experience with me :flower:

Yes I will update on how things go. I'm frightened that I'm not fully preparing myself for what may happen but I can't let go of hope just yet. The waiting game is the worst in situations like this.
Thank you :hugs:

Hope you get some good news and time goes quickly for u . My friend had the same issue but she has very healthy 2 yr old as it was a locum doing the scan and messed her measurements up!!!!
Just a thought Is it worth having the harmony blood test ? Around £550 in London .

Hi again :) check out this link, it helped me tremendously when i went through this. https://community.babycenter.com/po..._success_stories_for_all_those_that_need_hope

Many, many positive outcomes. I've read every page of that thread!

Also, the CVS was unpleasant, but if you can handle labor pains the test is cake. The uterus tenses as the needle hits it and that's the toughest part. I'm guessing you don't get this reaction if the test is done vaginally.

Lastly, your photo looks very similar to mine :) i didn't keep any of the pictures from the appointment where my son was diagnosed as i was so upset i left in a hurry, but it resembled yours if memory serves!

Thank you for the link Gigglebox. I came across that board yesterday and like yo u sat and read the whole thing.
It has been a ray of light to me at this time and I just hope I too can be one of the success stories. I have everything crossed but know I'm probably in for a long journey xxx

UPDATE!!!

We must have had someone special looking over us this week. After the most emotionally challenging week of my life we have been given the news from our consultant today that our baby is perfect I truly can't believe it.

He scanned me for a good while then asked me when we had our previous scan done. He said he has no cause for concern what so ever and the problem has totally resolved itself. I am going for my official dating scan on Monday but at this stage my EDD is 18th December.

I still feel worried that something may go wrong but I think that's normal after the week of worry. After our scan on Monday hopefully that feeling will go and we can try to enjoy our pregnancy.

Thank you all so much for your support. I feel so incredibly blessed at the moment

Xxxx
