Damaged tubes can you still get pregnant naturally?

Hi All,

My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for 2 years now. I just recently went for dye test and found out that my tubes are damaged. Which made my heart just drop. The doctor told me that the only way of getting pregnant was to do ivf which I don't really want to do. What I was wondering is if any of you have gotten pregnant naturally when the doctor told you can't get pregnant without help from ivf, etc.

Have you had a lap done yet? You have to have one to confirm the diagnosis of damaged tubes. Also, many tubes can be repaired through laparascopy.

IVF is a wonderful thing, don't rule it out straight away, they are miracle babies

Don't know much about damaged tubes, but if you have been trying for 2 years and now been told they are damaged, this is possibly the reason you haven't fell pregnant.

Thanks for the response I was just hoping that someone has been told that they can't get pregnant naturally and did. I will ask the dr. about the lap, but I was told by the dr. when I did the dye test that my tubes are damaged.
There are a couple of reasons I don't want to do to ivf one is how expensive it is and the emotion of it.

Ask about the lap. If he's not willing to do it, find a doctor that will. An hsg has a 10-15% false positive rate and, like I said before, many tubes can be repaired during a lap.

Sometimes you can get pregnant naturally with damaged tubes. It depends on the kind and extent of damage. Usually it occurs when only one tube is blocked and/or damaged. If both tubes are severely damaged, your only option would be IVF. I wouldn't go that route without the lap first, however.

Ok thanks. I will ask about the lap. I don't know the extent of how badly tubes are damaged. All the dr said was that my tubes are damaged and my only option is ivf but, I do know how dr work. My step mom was told she couldn't get pregnant by 3 dr. the 4th dr found what was wrong removed and got pregnant a month later. I'm hoping I can get pregnant naturally I don't want to spend that kind of money on ivf.

I had an ectopic and lost a damaged tube. I was told that they other was too bad to conceive and I was booked in to have the other removed ( to take away the risk of ectopic) 11 weeks before the surgery too place I found out I was pregnant with my eldest- she is now 4. I had another ectopic but it was treated by methotrexate and 7 mths later I found out I was pregnant with identical twins. Never ever give up hope and please never let anyone remove so called damaged tubes. I hope my story gives you hope. Very very best of luck! Xx

Thanks for your response. That does give me hope. I feel like the doctor is just after money for the ivf. Instead of saying lets do another hsg test to make sure this is right doctor just frustrate me. Or even suggest other option other than ivf. I mean if that is my only option I guess I will find the money, but I would like to try other things first.

I had a hsg in the dec before I fell pregnant with my twins and it was fine. Also I believe that the procedure in itself can " clear a path" if you like. Fingers crossed! I know exactly what you mean about the dr wanting to make money. Mine was particularly creepy in that he kept saying I will give you a baby as if he was personally fathering it!

Thanks! And yes fingers crossed everything works out. Some doctors are so weird and don't know if they mean to come off creepy or if they are creepy.

I got pregnant two cycles after my HSG showed blockage. I guess the dye helped clear the path

I haven't seen the doctor yet my apt it next week. A little nervous to see what he has to say. I'm hoping its good news but who knows. But when I talk to the dr I will post an update.

Yes, totally do an update. I would love to know. I hope the best for you and your situation. I fear that I have damaged tubes myself (don't know for sure) but I have a nagging feeling that is what's going on. I will be going to my OBGYN soon to have all kinds of tests to see what's up. So seen the doctor on Thursday. He confirmed that my only option is IVF. So he is sending the referral letter to the IVF clinic, he said roughly it will be about 3 months. Then we will have to do some more blood test, do a seminar, and talk to the doctors at the IVF clinic. I want to see if they do mini ivf. I was also told it would be roughly $10,000 for the ivf. I'm hoping this all works out.

You know before I found out that my tubes were damaged. I had a feeling something was not right. My doctor did a bunch of blood work all that came back normal so I had to do the HSG test. I hope your tubes and blood work is normal. Let me know how it goes.

Oh Axl, i'm so sorry the dye showed that your tubes were completely blocked? Did the doctor say that there was a slight chance that the dye could clear a path for a few months afterwards? I'm so sorry, I was really hoping good news from you..sigh. What's the difference between mini IVF and regular IVF, if you don't mind me asking? I hope everything works out for you as well! I'm praying for you. I will definitely let you know how everything goes for me..i just have a feeling though. I posted a new thread just FOR this topic-- blocked tubes, I hope someone has a story. I would love to be buddies with you on here so we can talk to eachother about this. I hope the best for you on your IVF journey! Keep me updated, even though it's 3 months away.

Yes, it feels good knowing that you can relate to someone who is going through a similar situation. It helps ALOT. Because you do feel like you're the only one. I will be looking forward to your updates! My appointment will be in a couple of weeks, so i'll let you know how it goes. Did the doctor give you an explanation on why your tubes are blocked? Or is it unexplained? I bet it is normal to be feeling all those emotions, I would be! I really hope the mini IVF works for you!
