Dates that don't match!

The date of my last AF was the 2nd of June and when I went for my 12 weeks scan it now puts me at 15 + 3 However that is the exact date my AF started. I'm confused because she said the baby measured 15 + 3 but how can it if I wasn't even pregnant!
I get that they add on the 2 weeks before you ovulate in the begining, but surely the scan goes by how big the baby is?
I think I'm just super confused. It just makes me feel a bit strange to say i'm 15 + 3 when I know that I can't be :s

They count from the beginning of your last period, which adds about two weeks to the gestational age. I know it's confusing, but that's how they do it to get to 40 weeks.

I checked a calculator online, and you are 15+ weeks like they said, due 3/7/12.

Yeah I just don't get why they say it measures 15 + 3 when it isn't hahaha!
One of them strange things I suppose!
Do your dates match when you ovulated or the start of your AF?

that sounds right to me. my last lmp was 6th june and i'm 15wks tomorrow and due 13th march.

i have been up the wall with my dates! i had a scan at 6wks n 11wks they have giving me a due date of 10th feb,but based on my lmp its out by nearly 3wks!!! midwife says must have ovulated late and she said they will go by scans date and not my lmp! soo confusing i know,i have 20wk scan next wk so will see if date changes then x

Pregnancy is actually 38 weeks, if you count from the date of ovulation/conception, but since that's not always clear they measure baby from LMP, so even though you may have conceived 13 weeks ago, the baby is said to measure 15 weeks. Its just the ways it calculated.

I'm 20 weeks, thats my LMP date and what the baby measures, but technically I conceived 18 weeks ago. xx

I know what you mean, I got caught straight after mc, but my dates by my midwife and my scan put me at the day I started bleeding. I know it's not possible, but that's the way it goes I guess! X

My first day of last AF was 2.10.11 which would put me at about 31+4 but the baby measured less than that when I went in for 1st appt. According to the measurement I should currently be 28+6 I just go with what they tell me and just wait for baby to get here

I'm 20+2 and I measure at 19+1. Babies grow at different speeds.

Pregnancy is measured/dated by lmp...so it should go back to the first day of your last period. Thats what all the calculations are based on.
