my lo is now 24hrs old. I know it's still extremely early days. I had a morphine inj an hour before he was born..but hes literally slept since he was born. its a struggle to wake him to feed. in 24hrs hes nursed about 4 times and once by expressed milk thru a syringe. my midwives arent concerned but I am...

My lg slept for most of her first 24 hours and then kept the whole maternity award by crying on her second night!

The recommendation is to feed every four hours until
Milk supply is established but they really don't drink much to start with

Look at kellymom and pinky mackay websites for more information and help re breastfeeding.

Good luck.

DD2 was very sleep the first few days, I had to wake her every 4 hours and it was sometimes very hard!

Try undressing him, changing nappy, tickling, wet cloth, skin to skin

We did lots of skin to skin cuddles in the first few days but tbh the first 12 hours he barely nursed even when undressed etc.
It's nothing to be concerned about usually.

I was told in the hospital that 4 bfeeds in the first 24hrs is what they expect. Most babies take a day or two to get over labour and get the hang of feeding. Just keep offering the breast and encourage him by rubbing your nipple in front if his nose or expressing a little using your hand and rubbing the damp nipple on his lips. Taking clothes off and tickling his feet might help too.

My lo was very sleepy for about 2 weeks. I had to strip him down every feed, tickle, use a cold cloth, change diaper (even if it doesn't need changing just take it off and put back in). I think it's pretty normal in the beginning

My daughter was extremely lethargic for three WEEKS. But that's abnormal--I think a few days is more typical. I would say be vigilant about waking, changing, cool cloth on skin if necessary, and just plan to devote the next few weeks to lots of skin-to-skin time and resting/nursing baby.

Honestly I was extremely anxious and never thought we'd get the hang of it, but I've been nursing her for nearly 14 months now so I guess we did. :winkwink:
