My son is 2 months old, and I have been exclusively bfing with almost no trouble since he was born. We had one week of bad latching, and about 1.5 months of sensitive nipples (but not what I would call sore or cracked).

Lately I have been having deep, sharp breast pain after I nurse. It's pretty random - sometimes it doesn't happen for 2 hours, sometimes 30 minutes after he's eaten. I know that this sort of pain is a symptom of thrush - but we have no other symptoms. LO doesn't have any white creamy spots, or any redness of any kind, and my nipples are completely normal and don't hurt at all. I can even let the water from the shower pelt them! :) Nursing is completely pain-free. It's just afterwards that it hurts.

Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or experience?

Thank you immensely!!

I had this about 3 weeks ago with my LO - a real sharp pain normally just below my nipple which could happen anytime including whilst I was feeding him. My nipples were a little sore but no more than any other time. I also had no 'classic' symptoms of thrush nor did my LO. I saw the doctor and he thought that it may just be the let down reflex getting more pronounced. Apparently nipples with thrush have a very characteristic appearance which he didn't think mine had! The pain went away after a few days though although I sometimes still get a twinge. If you are in any doubt about thrush get to the doctors as it can escalate really quickly and cause issues with BF'ing. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi Stiina

this is exactly how my thrush manifested (I've had it on and off for 7 weeks! still have it) - as a deep sharp pain in my breasts that would come and go fairly randomly, and not necessarily after every feed. Sebastian has never shown any symptoms and my nipples, while sensitive, a bit pink-looking and occasionally peeling a bit, have not been badly affected and are not sore.

After being diagnosed with thrush about 5 weeks ago i took a full course of diflucan and used daktarin gel - they didn't seem to help at all. I have now resigned myself to having thrush indefinitely. I have cut down on sugar and eat live yoghurts - these seem to be the only things that alleviate the symptoms. It was also suggested to me to put wet sage teabags on my boobs. I'm going to try that today.

good luck, hope you're able to shake it if it is thrush!:)

Thank you, ladies! Well... pink's post reassured me and mogwai, yours scared me! :) I guess everyone is different so you can't really diagnose over the internet. <sigh> Doctor it is!

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply!!!!! It means a lot. I don't post much so I wasn't sure if I'd get replies
