The first step should be to bring your concerns up to your pediatrician.

But as someone that works with disabilities. It doesn't sound like asd. If it is it would definitely be high functioning.

I would actually be more inclined to say adhd.

Not knowing where you live, you can always request a preschool evaluation at 3 in the us at your local school district.

You should be able to. Schools can't deny an evaluation if you request one. It's free of charge and you can decide to enroll your son or not after the eval.

You could also contact your local infant and toddler office. They work with kids to 3 years so they might be able to offer you see suggestions.

I had initially thought aspergers too, however, that term has been replaced with high functioning autism. It has a lot of characteristics as adhd such as the sensory needs and even some of the movement and lack of sleep.

It sounds more mainly like ADHD however you can have both ADHD and ASD (aspergers, they now use the term ASD under the new diagnosis)

I will warn you, you will struggle to get a diagnosis for a child who is functioning as well as yours, the average age in the UK is still around 9, it can be a very long road of years of appointments and tests. That however doesnt mean you shouldnt start or keep pushing if you feel there is something different from his peer group

It doesn't sound like ASD but maybe ADHD to me... I would see if you can see either a pediatric neurologist or a developmental pediatrician
