I'd call that a 6 oz bottle, but I think it doesn't really matter as long as you know what you call it. The addition of the powder obviously does displace some of the water. But personally, I could call a bottle with 6 oz of water a 6 oz bottle. Sometimes if you make a smaller bottle, it doesn't quite fill it up to the next oz or ml marker, so then it gets confusing. But really, I don't think it matters as long as it makes sense to you.

I would say 6oz as tbat happens to me but sometimes when I shake it theres a little bubbles which makes it look 7oz but thats not actually what he drinks

my baby boy is 13 weeks old and is on 7 ounces, so i put 7 ounces of water in with 7 scoops of formula.

Thanks ladies! The reason it matters to me is my lo started fighting her bottles for 1.5 weeks. It was really difficult to feed her, she'd scream and fight. I took her to daycare the one day and they only fed her 2oz and skipped her second bottle! I confronted them and now they're nitpicking every little thing. Like it's a big deal she ate 3oz that day instead of 2oz, when if I was feeding her she would've had 10-12oz.

ETA: she goes to daycare for 6hrs and at home she eats every 2.5-3 hrs.

This baffled me when LO was born and I had to ask my health visitor. She said the number of oz in the bottle is the number of scoops of milk. I find in LO's bottles that it always shows 1oz more than is actually in there x

I also think it depends on how you are feeding your child. I am caring for 2 children.

Since one is just a couple weeks old, I make one large bottle of formula and pour out the number of oz I need. In this case 3 oz is in fact 3 oz. I call this 3 oz.

The older one is at 6 oz so I make separate bottles of 6 oz water then formula. This results in more than 6 oz. I call this 6 oz.

Your daycare may not be nitpicking, they may just want to be sure what method you are following. If I were you I would just write it down their way just because they have so many children to deal with so consistency will reduce errors. If you do 6oz water at home with formula, then write 7 oz. Unless you want to be specific and say 6 oz water and 3 scoops formula. At home, just do it your way.
