I thought my lo was eating too much then also. Now i worry if he is getting enough lol. I bf and he gets formula. He was nursing and taking 5-6 oz every 3 hours. At 6 weeks they go through a growth spurt so maybe that's why he is eating so much. I'm not sure about the reflux thou, no experience with that... He was 8.1 at birth and he weighed 12.6.

Ella has been taking the same volume of formula since 6 or so weeks. She has 6x 5oz bottles in a 24hr period. She never finishes a full bottle and always leaves about 1-1.5oz where she used to drain them a couple of weeks ago.
She weighed 8.1lbs at birth, 10.1lbs at 6wks and 11.11 at 9weeks... and has gained steadily and stayed on the same centile, so no... I dont think your LO is over eating.

Ella also has silent reflux and is on gaviscon but I dont think it affects how mucj she eats x

If he is only sometimes finishing the bottle I'd only offer 5oz if his feeds remain so frequent.

I'd also make the feeds up as and when they're required as formula can start to breed bacteria if left to sit pre-made from powder. 5-6oz every 2 hours does seem a lot to me.

From DS1's red book at 6 weeks he was taking 6oz every 3.5-4 hours and was 9lb15oz at birth and over 13lb at 6 weeks.

We were doing 4oz every 2-3hrs but have upped it to 5oz as he was draining every bottle - going every 3hrs maybe more now....they do have a big old growth spurt at 6 weeks. As long as he is roughly following the weight curve in his red book I'd say your doing fine x

My baby has been eating that much since 3 weeks and now he is 2 months and over 15 lbs... he holds it all down and cries like something is killing him if I try and cut him back. His Dr said feed him and that's what we do. Although he is overweight and getting hard for this lil mommy to pick up!

Same here, my 4 week old is taking 6oz too. Although sometimes she does leave an ounce or so. She was 7.15 oz at birth and at three and half weeks weighed 10.9oz. She has chubbed right out! My first dd was exactly the same, was a chubby baby following the 98th centile, taking 6oz at 4 weeks too, but now at nearly two years old she is regular size and has been for some time.

I was told that you cant really overfeed with milk as what they dont need they will bring back up - both my dd's have barely threw up, they dont waste a drop! x

Thanks for the replies ladies... I can't believe this is normal haha. He's already so big I can't imagine him having another growth spurt.

I know right! I'm glad mine is healthy but goodness I had no idea he'd be this healthy!

If he's spitting up he may be. I wouldn't have tried more unless he clearly wanted it (nonstop crying). Sometimes they fuss for a bit after feeding because of gas. If they're keeping it all down though then it's not too much (one of mine takes as much as 16oz at a time and none of it comes back up- he'll scream after the first bottle if he needs more).
