So, I've had a toothache for a couple weeks - I haven't been able to go in and have it looked at until this week because of dental insurance problems. (yes, the US sucks :growlmad: )

anyhow, i think i might need either a root canal, crown or just a large filling. i'm in a moderate amount of pain. hopefully getting in to see the dentist in a day or two now that my dental insurance stuff has been sorted.

anyone had any big dental work while pregnant? i know it's mostly ok, but i can't help but be stressed.

Hi there, sorry you are in pain... You need to call your OB and let them know what is going on... Most dentist will require some sort of note to do any work besides a normal cleaning. I have a cavirty a couple yers back when pregnant and my dentist would not do anything without my OB's approval. Good luck!

I just had a filling done last month, and have a root canal scheduled for next week. I called my OB to make SURE it was ok, and they said that there was no reason no to have necessary work done. My dentist did not require a note from my OB. This seems to be something that is area-specific.

I had my wisdom teeth removed while in my second tri with DS2, and my dentist didn't require a note either, although they did say they wouldn't prescribe me any pain medication with OB's approval. I ended up just using Tylenol afterwards, and that was hard! But baby was fine, and everything was okay. :flower:

I had root canal done, my dentist was happy to do it and I didn't need any pain relief after it was just sore for a little while after

I had to have a tooth pulled in the second tri after it cracked in half. You should only have limited xrays and make sure to inform the dentist that you are expecting, so that they can make sure the anaesthetic is gentle enough for you. Most OBs would rather you get it fixed than risk infection or worse.

My OB faxed over a note to the dentist today. So not looking forward to my appointment tomorrow! Thanks for the advice ladies!

I had a root canal my second pregnancy when I was only 5 weeks along, I only took tylenol for the pain and it helped. I am getting ready to go get work done again soon while I'm pregnant because it will be harder to do once the baby is here.
