Got an appointment with my dentist tomorrow for fillings but upon reading up a couple of things, it said sometimes they'll try put it off until after your pregnancy if it's not desperately needed. They don't yet know i'm pregnant and I don't fancy the 25 minute walk only to discover I have to turn around again and go back home. I mean at the minute that's what's happening lol. Don't know whether to phone but to be honest i've left it a little late now as I gotta leave for work in 8 minutes and I won't be home til 6.30 when it'll be shut. My appointment's at 9am. Hmmm.

I would cancel it if I were you... With pregnancy hormones, I think your gums can get soft and bleeding can be a problem... plus with all those instruments poking around in there/anesthetic/etc, I wouldn't risk it.

Phone them but it is safe as far as i know. I had one a couple months ago no problem, lots of pregnant ladies get them done (might as well whilst it's free lol) x

Just go for the white fillings rather than amalgam ( which contain minute traces of mercury - wouldn't be a problem for you but not worth the risk to the baby ) - you must tell the dentist you are pregnant.

lol thanks guys n gals. I don't have a problem getting them done but I might try phone on my way to work and see if it's still alright. xx

Was wondering this too as I have an appointment on Tuesday for a filling. Think I might postpone now anyway at least until i have been given my Mat expemption form so I won't have to pay. Last time I got this at booking in so I think I'll have to wait another 3 weeks - a month.

My friend got as much done as possible at the dentist while she was pregnant as it was free! I'm waiting for my exemption card to come through to book my visit. I think they do give you white fillings instead of the silver which in my book is better as I always pay extra for the white ones anyway! You should tell your dentist that you are pregnant though. Although whenever I go I always have an x-ray and he always asks if there's any chance I'm pregnant so I'm sure yours will ask too! (although when I go next time the dental nurse is a girl I used to go to school with and we don't get on too well and she'll obviously hear when I say I'm pregnant and I bet she will tell people!)

Good luck, going to the dentist is never fun :)

xx

Well, I got my husband to phone for me - not allowed any fillings done until 16-24 weeks (4-6months) pregnant! So there u have it, no dentist for me tomorrow :) can't say i'm disappointed lol. Not sure they'd give me white fillings - it's NHS.

It funny how it so differnt from country to country! Here its fine to get fillings whenever and we dont use amalgam anymore, havnt for a good 10 years! Hope they dont get too bad for you hun, and you make it to the 4 months mark with little/no pain from them!:hugs:

Thanks :) see, this is yet another good reason for me to move to Australia lol x

Yeah move here :) hehehehehe i got a filling done last week and i am 6 weeks pregnant. They told me it is perfectly fine to get them done in pregnancy. They just cant put you under. I had locals around the tooth area (obviously) and they said that it wont affect the baby at all... :)

When I was pg with my first (5 years ago) The dentist wouldnt do my filling because he said they dont know what affect the pain killing injection (cant remember name :dohh: ) has on the baby, I had to wait until I'd had the baby. :)

lol I got married in Perth last year, wanna move over but the visa costs like £3,000 without medicals etc!
I think the reason they refused me was either a) coz of the type of filling or b) coz they don't wanna take a chance or play a part in a potential miscarriage, perhaps. Might just be policy.
Either way I don't care, i'm not a massive fan of the dentist and the longer I can leave it the better :D After all this talk of it yesterday I had a dream last night that all my teeth were falling out because my gums were so soft through pregnancy! Lol!
xx

I was wondering about this too! Im due to get an filling replaced with a crown but just got my BFP so think I will need to give them a call before I go all the way to the surgery for nothing. Appointment is a few weeks away so will probably play it by ear and call nearer the time as a bit cautious after a recent mc.

Ah yeah fair dooz :) worth giving 'em a ring, glad I did now, I would've been well annoyed at myself if i'd walked all that way only to be turned down! xx
