Does anyone have any advice on knowing if lo is on track? I feel like her pediatrician, at the limited visits we have just brushes past milestones, almost like "she is doing that, yes, ok. Moving on..." And I just worry if she is lagging we won't catch it in time to help her. I don't feel like I have a good resource for what she should be able to do...and I go by adjusted age, correct? And sometimes they lag even with that, correct? She wasn't even super early, just 6 weeks... I just used to work with kids, just not this young, and so I know how important early intervention is and I worry we will miss something because we don't know and her dr, so far, doesn't seem to go over it much.

Any advice/reassurance would be wonderful.

Every baby reaches milestones at different times. My lo was a 33 weeker and she didn't sit up by herself until 7 months adjusted age. Army crawled at 8 months adjusted age. Crawled on knees at 9 1/2 months. She is now 14 months adjusted and starting to walk.

My full term girls all reached theses milestones at different ages. Hope this helps.

My daughters pediatrician always asks what she is doing when it comes to milestones. We go to growth and development appointments at the hospital she was born at too and they go over everything. She went on my due date and 3 months corrected, and she has to go at 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 36 months corrected. They ask tons of questions and actually play with her and watch her do what she can do. At her 3 month (corrected) appointment, she was doing everything a regular 3 month old could do and more.

They are all so different, my son was only 4 weeks early and met all his milestones when I expected.

My daughter is 9 months old tomorrow, she was born at exactly 33weeks and has been behind with things. Held her head at 5months, just sat up last month at 8months, still a bit wobbly, was late at weaning (still isn't that great) hasnt attempted to crawl or weight bare on her legs or anything yet but I can see her doing things everyday so I know she'll get there soon :)

Just this last week she's learned to lap her hands, wave bye bye and say da da :)

My pediatrician also doesnt discuss much about his milestones. He just basically shows us the weight and height chart and tells us the percentile that our lo is in, then he listens to the heart and lungs, gives him his shots and out the door we go. The only time we discuss about milestones is when I actually bring it up. Personally, I get excited when he does something new but dont really care when he reaches them. I consider if he is healthy, he will reach his milestones when he is ready. He started smile, like really smile, when he was 2.5 months old adjusted age, he is now 4 months adjusted (6 months actual) and just started rolling a few days ago and giggles when I do something that he finds amusing. He is doing everything that a 4 month old would do. I think if you really wanted to get an idea, you should always go by the adjusted age. If you go by the actual age, its going to drive you crazy like it used to do to me.

I always go by adjusted age even though our son is now a year old, (10 months adjusted). It takes the stress off what we should expect them to be doing. My husband thinks I'm being ridiculous when I tell people his adjusted age, but that's what I believe. I think we are forcing them to advance more than they should be required when we use birth age. Most of the pediatricans around here don't adjust, and they use the same growth chart for full term babies and preemies. On top of that, I breastfed our son for one year. The doctors don't have a seperate growth chart for breastfed preemies.
