I have just caught a bit of Loose Women while eating lunch and they happened to get into a dicussion about IVF. Carol, who has always been very clear she has never wanted kids, never felt broody etc, said she doesn't think IVF should be a priority on the NHS! It's too early for me to know whether IVF is anything myself and my husband will have to consider in the future, but it still got me really annoyed! How can someone who does not want children (and who could afford to go private if she did want to) make that statement. AAAgh.

I think it gets repeated mid-afternoon if anyone wants to see it and hurl things at the TV. x

she's an ar5e anyway and would never understand. grrrr

Hope you dont mind me posting in here. I saw it too, shes said some other stuff about IVF and assisted conception before. I think shes a knob

I think she's an opinionated twat. Sometimes I love her, but most of the time she does my nut in!

i didnt see it but what a bitch im sure itv have had alot of complaints about this comment.

one of my freinds has told me today that she is having a boob job paid for by the nhs.

i love my friend to bits but this made me so angery. IVF is more important then bigger boobs

:saywhat:I saw it and basically just thought she was ignorant and hasn't got a clue how can you comment on something that you have NEVER longed for!!!! :ignore:

I have just been placed on the IVF waiting list, and was very upset by the coments Carol made today. We have a medical condition that we didnt ask for and cant change and therefore why shouldnt we get treatment for it. If people get treated for illness caused by smoking and drinking etc on the nhs (which I am NOT saying they shouldn't), which is illness they have brought on themselves then why shoulnt we be treated!!!

If we had to we would pay to have IVF, but why should I?

Oh she is such a cow, wait till she has liver damage from allher drinking or some STD and see if she expects to be treated! She also said about people having unexplained fertility and being unsuccessful at IVF but then going on to conceive naturally really werent infertile - she didnt have a clue!!

I am SOOOO glad I didnt see this! Just reading about it on here is making me fuming!

:grr: STUPID COW!

Hi just caught the tale end of her conversation and i was raging. She is such an opinionated cow. Think she opens her mouth and lets her belly rumble with out thinking of the implications of her words.

We should all complain about the stupid cow. Force her into a public apology. Ignorant bitch

If she has no desire for children then she really wouldnt understand. Amelie was an 'accident' but I was so relieved that I could get pregnant and now that I have her, I can't imagine not being able to conceive and my heart breaks for the women (and men) that try and try and cant conceive. It was very insensitive of her IMO.

She's entitled to her opinion (freedom of speech, and all that) but it's hardly an objective one, is it? Her preference is that she does not want children. If she DID want children and was unable to get pregnant I'm sure her opinion would change. In a sense, her belief is most likely that IVF is elective. Cosmetic, in a sense. It doesn't save a life and having children is not a necessity, therefore she believes that it should not prioritised on the NHS. A lot of people have this view. I have people who have told me that I am "putting my body through stuff it should not be put through" simply to have a child. That's my choice, though. My opinion is that it is my right to have a child. Other people might have other opinions.

We cannot force people to change their opinions...

She's not even worth thinking about.

I'm with CS ... she's not worth the aggro.

I do think that there is a place for IVF on the NHS. After all, you can get dental work, hearing aids, knee replacements, etc, etc, etc done on the NHS. None of these procedures are as a result of a life threatening condition. Another point I would make is that the consequences of not conceiving could be devastating to an individual or couple for example, they could suffer terrible mental stress and illness as a result - how much would that cost the NHS and government in sick pay and treatment???

Didn't see the show but this is kinda on the same line... I'm a teacher and I contacted my union to see what I was entitled to in terms of time off for treatment. They said as IVF is "non-essential" treatment I am not entitled to any paid time off and it is at my head teacher's discretion whether a) I get time off and b) if I get paid. My argument is that this is essential treatment - I cannot have a baby without it. Ever get the impression the world is against us ltttcers?????

I saw it and was fuming particlualry since my emotions are raw after a failed ICSI cycle and neg HPT yesterday and bloods confirmed today.

To my amazement all they kept saying were things like "some women cannot accept they cannot have children" and variations on those comments all based on women .......... I CAN HAVE CHILDREN thankyou very much!! I have had fertility treatment because my hubby struggles not ME you ignorant loose fking women....... why does everyone presume fertility issues are with the woman 40% of fertility problems have a semen problem alone as the underlying factor not to mention the extra where the semen is a contributary factor! I have to explain to the very few people i have told one of which made suggestions i could have donor eggs!!!! even i after i had explained our issues are with the semen!!!.......i cant believe how incrediably ignorant people are about infertility and it was allowed to be discussed on such an influential TV program, i am not sure they have made any friends from what is normally a great show!

As a loose woman fan i was infuriated!!! I think we need to organise an email to express our hurt!!!

Are you sure that is correct? Even my husband is allowed time off to come with me to appointments and he is in the private sector. He was told they have to allow time off for IVF hospital appointments??? Can you check that out again hun cos it does not sound right to me???

Sorry your treatment didn't work chocci ... There's nothing I can say that will make it any easier, or make any of it make sense. It is grossly unfair ...

Thank Maz, hey its onwards and upwards for me I am concentrating on getting the twins I feel destined to have via FET now hahahaah :) x

That's what the union said, it's all discretionary. They think cos we get 13 weeks holiday a year we should be able to fit everything into that time. It's really not my style, but I will get signed off by FS if there are any problems and they'll have to pay me then!

Am so sorry to hear bloods hun. If you need to rant you know where I am

Yeah mentioned to my hubby and he said he only gets it as his company honour it, its not law which i thought it was :( You can ring in sick though cant you, i would defo do that, sod work, some things are more important :) Also you can surely have time off for dentist, doctors and hospital appointments cant you ? Appointmetns are a right pain but i have come to realise most companies / employers give us nothing so I give little back to now and look after number one :) x

I have brushed myself down now chic and thinking about the FET cycle now, i was not really very well on the ICSI cycle with all the meds so am hoping the FET cycle will be kinder on my body and embryo :)

Good luck to you and :bfp: soon XX
