Did anyone's child lose weight when they began weaning?

I'm a little bummed out that I took my LO to HV yesterday and he had lost 2ozs. (Yes I know it's nothing really but!)

Aside from the expected loss right after birth, he has gained every single week for six months. Always, always a gain, some very substantial too.

I was very blazé yesterday handing him over to be weighed, and as usual expecting the same kind of gain. Infact more than anything, I expected him to have gained more than normal with the introduction of more foods over the last few weeks.

I was told not to worry, he is probably more active due to new skills etc and burning more energy. I was also told that if food is replacing milk there will be a drop, as milk is more calorific than food....but, I feel that he has been getting a very similar amount of milk and food is the 'extra' rather than milk being replaced.

I HAVE swapped to a different formula number, from Aptamil 1 to 3, (as this milk is meant to compliment a weaning diet more). Perhaps this has thrown things, has anyone experienced drops when changing milk?

A little nervous for next week now:blush: can't believe I'm so bothered by 2oz but its so unlike him.

Yep, at 6 months my dd went from the 50th to 25th after we started solids, in fact I think that was at 7 months, so a month of having solids. Now she is back up to the 50th. I wouldn't worry at all, they start putting on more slowly after 6 months and then again after a year. As long as she is healthy and developing well I would not worry.

My dd started food last week, when I took her to get weighed yesterday she only put on about 2oz since she was last weighed which was 3 weeks ago and I was worried. But the HV advised that 6 months they gain slows down some.

Between 2 weeks and 6 months old, guidelines state that you shouldn't weigh your LO more than once a month (unless there's a problem, obviously) so I'd say loads of kids probably do lose a bit here and there but their parents never know about it because they're not weighing them so often and weight gain over the next weeks will make up for it. It just causes unnecessary worry to know! I'd not go back for another three weeks and then see - you'll probably find that LO has gained overall in that time.

Thank you, here we can go to the HV to be weighed weekly if we like and as it's fallen on my day off work, I've tended to go. In comparison to last week, and having spent most of this week worrying about the next weighin, he was up 11oz today!! Crazy Math. :-s I don't however want it to become habit to go so often. I was totally thrown by last week so wanted to check nothing bad was going on this week.
