Hi all, I recently miscarried due to blighted ovum, just saw empty sac at 11 weeks at a private scan I was too worried/convinced through whole preg that it didn't,t feel right...I passed everything naturally by yest morning. Odd how i just knew and sad my doc and midwife didn't really do anything although in know it would have been same outcome.
Went for scan and usual rushed appointment at the early pre unity yest too and was told I don't need anti d as I lost before 12 weeks. I am worried about this and after reading alot online seems some are offered it regradless and others not. nhs just trying to save money? Now waiting for epau to call back and no doubt try and fob me off. I know our loss was prob not due to blood probs at all but after I had my first son some woman rang from the hospital asking us to come back as he was Day Positive ?as I understand it now it means he had some antibodies as he is a rhesus position blood type like his :blush:dad. We never took him in as he seemed fine, no jaundice and had only just got him home etc. Now I am wondering if some blood did swap with him if this might cause me probs from now on. Sorry for long and involved story just hoping some of you might have an idea or at least be able to say whether you had the anti d etc. Thanks :-)

Hi,

I had a mc at 7-8wks and did not have the anti-d injection (I'm O neg, my OH A pos); I was told that it isn't necessary pre-12wks (as the placenta isn't functioning independently) ; however, if you are concerned, you could ask your GP to run the anti-body test (it checks whether you have any contrary blood product in your system) and that might reassure you...

am sorry to hear about your loss....

best wishes

thanks for your reply, after my pushy 'rant' at the epau earlier they have just rang and said the consultant has agreed to give me a shot tomorrow after all. ladies, if you are ever unhappy or feel fobbed off please push them as much as you can...and maybe just one less thing to worry about when we feel strong enough to try again x

Are you a negative blood group? If so and you have a positive partner then you are safe for the first pregnancy but you need anti d in order to have another child without a significant risk of miscarriage.

When I had medical management last week they checked my blood type in case I needed anti d before I left. I didn't need it but if I'd been negative I'd had to have had the injection to have another child safely. I lost mine at 11+3 so they may have offered because I'm on the cut off point but it is definitley worth checking this out with your hospital.

Sorry for your loss also. I'm A negative, had the injection with my son during pregnancy and after. I know they give it if you've had a d and c and are rhesus negative but maybe they don't routinely offer it if you have had natural MC like in did. I am def gonna take them up on it though now they have offered it, maybe they just want me to get off their case but then again, maybe it is something I should have had yesterday when I first asked about it!

Hi Ladies

I had a D&C in Dec 2009 and after I was offered a D&C - I took it.
After my Ectopic and LAP to remove my tube I was offered it again - I took it.
I had another D&C yesterday and I was offered it again - I took it.

Dont know if there is a pattern here? I am RH Negative and my husband is O Postitive.

I am TOTALLY fed up having miscarriages!! Constantly having to break bad news!

*PHEW*

You poor thing . Don't worry that being rhesus negative or having anti d is to do with your miscarrying, my nan had 11 babies and my mum had 2 and they are like us, negative blood groups. As I understand it anti d is used to 'mop up any antibodies you may make when you have a potentially sensitising incident like a miscarriage, amnio test, even a big knock or fall in pregnancy. Good luck for future pregnancies hun.
