I totally understand the fear of being sick, I was really worried about this too. I've just got back from my GTT this morning. It was the 3 hour test and it was much better this time round than when I was expecting DS.
Firstly, they gave me Lucozade (like Gatorade) and that was much better to drink than the syrupy goo. My MW said a lot of places are switching to commercially produced drinks like this as women were feeling faint and sometimes being sick with the horrible clear drink. She also said to take Lucozade with me so if they didn't have it I could say I preferred it and opt for a better taste. I don't know if this is an option for everyone as each place seems to have different rules but could be worth investigating.
They worst thing was sitting upright in a chair, feeling a bit woozy, but I tried to concentrate on reading or playing games on my phone. When it was all done, they gave me a complimentary ham sandwichI sat and ate it like a mad woman!
Hope you won't encounter any sickness but def worth discussing with people first to see what options their might be to make it less of a worry for you.![]()
I am definitely bringing a snack to eat immediately after! A ham sandwich sounds delicious, I'll probably make myself a sandwich.
I don't think I can get Lucozade here in the US (not anywhere that I know of anyway). I am going to call my clinic today and ask if they would allow me to eat 28 jelly beans instead. It's still 50g of simple carbohydrates, and studies have shown it's as effective but with less side effects.
28 jelly beans also sounds pretty awful, though... I really couldn't care less for sweets.
If not, then I guess it's Glucola for me
