So I'm waiting for cd1 so I can call in and fingers crossed book my hycosy
just curious as to what the difference was ?

I'm getting a bit nervous as instupidly you tubes a video and it looked very unpleasant, I forgot about the catheter ! I know that sounds silly but surely that's got to hurt ? That's my main concern

My nurse said only lasts in the room carrying the procedure out
then thought does that mean hubby can't come in the room ?!
I want him there holding my hand which sounds wimpy as not normally a big baby but for some reason I'm getting worried about it and the results

Sorry meant to say only ladies in the room

Hi - I thought a HSG and a Hycosy were the same thing!!! Not sure though - must do a quick internet search now...............

Hysterosalpingo-contrast-sonography (HyCoSy) is a transvaginal ultrasound technique in which a solution of galactose and 1% palmitic acid (Levovist) - or a mixture of air and saline - is infused into the uterine cavity and observed to flow along the Fallopian tubes to assess tubal patency. The bright echoes generated by the Levovist makes tubal visualization easier, which is further improved by the addition of colour Doppler imaging.

An HSG is an outpatient procedure, which takes no longer than a half hour. It involves placing an iodine-based dye through the cervix and taking x-rays to help evaluate the shape of the uterus and whether or not the fallopian tubes are open or blocked.

Thats what I found and it seems to me like they are the same thing but not 100% sure - maybe someone else will know the difference.

Also when I had my HSG my DH wasnt allowed in - just a nurse (who held my hand) and the nurse inserting the dye (and a guy in a room reading the xray).

Good luck  and dont worry too much about it - it wasnt the worst.

Thank you !

Oh I see well that's made me feel a bit better so thank you

Sorry don't know difference between them but I had my HSG yesterday and it was very much like a smear test but with the added bonus of dye being injected into womb/tubes. It didn't last long 15 mins max but you can feel pressure when the dye goes in. It doesn't hurt really but it is uncomfortable so do take some painkillers 1 hour before hand. Admittedly, I did wince when the catheter went in but that sharp pain only lasts for a second or two (much like a pin prick).

I went back to work after the HSG and was fine but I did suffer from some bloating / hard tummy feeling and felt a bit uncomfortable.

Yep, only you allowed in the room but for me that was ok as didn't really want OH to see me in such a compromising and unelegant position!!!!

You get the results pretty much straight away unless there is something that needs looking at further - I was told that although tubes are clear I have an uneven uterine lining so that needs further investigation so have to wait another 2 weeks before the x-ray images are looked at and sent to my GP but at least we have some idea as to why its not happened for us yet so fingers crossed they can sort me out and we'll be growing a baby soon.

Hope your appointment goes well and don't worry, it's not too bad at all x x

Thanks sbee

I think I just want it done now, just waiting for cd1, currently cd26 so hoping I won't have to wait too long and can be booked in this month.

I've read that with a hy Cody you have ultrasound waves instead of xrays, but it's very similar procedure so least I'm more in the know now.

Good luck with your results, have you been told what happens next? Do you have your follow up app ?

My follow up is 20th jan
