Has anyone else noticed that their baby's ears r different shape/size?i have noticed this with my 12 week old boy

My LOs ears are noticeably different sizes and shapes. I noticed it a few days after he was born. When I pointed it out to OH, he said his ears are the same, and right enough they are! We've been together for 11 years and I only noticed when he pointed it out, so don't worry a thing about it - it's only noticeable on little heads! :flower:

The tip of my son's ear on one side didn't develop properly so he had to have it folded and pinned at 15 weeks. His ears stick out too far too so he had them pinned back for 3 months. He wears glasses and they've pushed his ears back out :dohh:

oilvers ears are the same size but have different shape, one of them is more rounded than the other one

You might want to research Microtia if you're really curious. My daughter has type 3 for her right ear unfortunately!

My LO is 13 weeks and her left ear is longer than her right. The reason for this is she prefers to lay her head to left & therefore her ear has been 'flattened' a bit. Hope this helps.

Ears sticking out too far...did you get them pinned for cosmetic reasons? My Thomas has ears that stick out massively, I'm worried he's headed for a lifetime of bullying. What does the pinning involve?

Mostly, we wouldn't have had it done but he was having the thumb removal at the same time, 2 birds 1 stone and all that...

They tape the ear or ears (we started off with one then did both) back with steri strips, you change it daily because they get icky very quickly. We did this for 3 months. You have to be careful if you only do 1 ear as you can end up over correcting and the ear that didn't stick out suddenly does (happened with us).

My middle son has type 1 microtia on his 1 ear - it is smaller than his other ear and has a nobble on it. The consultant said he couldn't fix it but would pin the 'good' ear back so it wasn't so noticeable. He wouldn't do it until he was old enough to ask for it himself (basically if he was bullied because of it or was self conscious) - he's 7 now and he is not bothered about it and nobody notices until you point it out (which we don't!)
It was very noticeable when he was a baby but it seems to have evened out a bit now :)

My lo has one ear that grew to stick further out than the other, because she used to sleep on that one side with it folded forward. She would always sleep with her ear folded! But now she's bigger it's not really noticeable, especially as her hairs grown. I really worried when she was tiny it was so obvious, but over time it becomes less so!

The top part of one of Imogen's ears is folded over, and is a completely different shape to the other one! I'd upload a picture if I could get to a computer :)

Aww! I'm glad it's not that big of an issue for him. :) Even with Type 3, most people don't notice Evelyn's ear until after they've been around her for awhile! We're still deciding if we're going to do the surgery they offer starting at 3 years so her hearing is restored in that ear before she starts school, or wait until she's 7-9 to do the rib cartilage surgery and let her make that choice. I'm just so thankful she is healthy and happy!

Considering Microtia affects 1 in 6,000-12,000 babies, you would think it would be more well known!
