Hey guys,

I'm 12weeks and a few days now and since I'm underweight I need to eat food and quite a bit of it!

But some days I dont even have breakfast until 2 in the afternoon and then I end up feeling really guilty. I just feel so tired and lazy, I find it difficult to even toast something like bread at times! Has anyone else experienced this and any tips?

I take my pregnacare tablet every day, but I dont feel like I'm doing enough, and that I'm a bad mum.

I'm scared that I'll cause harm to the baby by not eating a lot

My problem preparing food has been primarily due to the morning sickness as I find it really difficult to look at unprepared food without puking....

Anyways, since you mentioned you're underweight to begin with have you always had this problem or is this just new to be pregnant?

Do you mean my preparing food problem? I havent really had it before, I was perfectly fine with preparing food, but I just didnt eat 3 meals a day, thats why my weight came off I think. I have managed to put on a few pounds since I found out I'm pregnant. The problem is thought that I'm always worried about whether or not everything I'm eating is cooked properly and hygienic. I've had ocd's in the past and being pregnant has kinda created a whole new circle of ocd's! I'm trying to combat it though, it takes a lot of telling your brain to shut-up. Lol. But even when for e.g. someone else cooks for me and I'm happy with the preparation of the food, my body just doesnt want to eat!

well since you're underweight to begin with it's definilty good that you were able to put on some weight in the first trimester... many women including myself end up losing weight during that time.

I think if the OCD is becoming such a problem that it's preventing you from eating healthy it may be a good idea to consider some counselling from someone who specializes in obsessive compulsive disorders.. They'd be able to offer you some more techniques in how to tell your brain to shut up.

I've lost weight since my morning sickness started. I eat whenever I can, but a lot of it winds up in the toilet. I am so nauseous in the mornings & sometimes all day, but I have good days & bad days... & the good days I can eat pretty good. One or two nice meals & some snacks. But bad days, like today, I have trouble keeping anything down. I've already lost my breakfast - but I know I have to eat, so I have just finished up a few cups of soup. Hoping to keep it even though it's not the most nutritious meal I could have chosen, I went with what I could.

I have had a lot of trouble cooking since the ms started too, I can't stand the smell of raw meat & the standing around the stove cooking with all the smells just makes me even sicker. It's come down to my cooking whenever I feel well enough to, then it goes in the fridge for whenever it's time to eat. My hubby has been a dear heart about all of it.

If you're worried about foods being cooked improperly (read; meats) then just go vegetarian & eat plenty of high protein foods. I have been wary about undercooked meats, very very wary & I'm pretty much turned off by the thought of meat so I've been avoiding it.

Good luck!

Have you spoken to your midwife about this? I am sure its something they will have come across before - because you have had your problems in the past it may be worth mentioning.

I think alot of people including myself have suffered with preparing food/smelling food/eating food or even thinking about food during the worst stages of m/s but it does pass and I am sure your baby will come out healthy and bouncing :)

good luck x

I havent yet seen my midwife, have an appointment on the 13th, it was 2weeks ago but they failed to send me a letter notifying me of the appointment and rang me on the day to tell me how I missed the app! Very annoying as I feel once I see the midwife I'd feel so much better jus by getting everything off my chest. I've been pretty much vegetarian for a while now, only eat chicken/meat when someone has prepared it for me! Thanks for the tips guys. I'll defo speak to the midwife and counselling sounds like a good idea, dont want this problem to escalate!
