For the past few days I have had about £1.86 in my bank. I know this as I was once advised when I went into the red (by bank) I have been keeping an eye on my account, and I was waiting for a transfer from OH's account. So I checked yesterday and today - at a machine and online and it says for each that £1.86 avaliable.

It still said that at 2am this morning. Today being the 7th of July.

So imagine my horror when I check my account today and ok, my CB is in, as is some other cash, BUT, just above that dated the 6TH OF JULY is a payment for stuff I bought from Somerfield on the 2ND JULY (boy are they slow in taking payments off!! Pisses me of). But anyway............this put me OVERDRAWN!

So I am going to get a £38 charge for being overdrawn!

Despite me checking my account on the machine and online and up till 2am this morning it showing me as not overdrawn.

I am considering going into the bank and complaining, but how can I prove it??

I am very VERY disgusted with them, and the fact that shops can still chose when to process payments, so whatever you bought on one day, might not be taken off for up to TEN days!

ARGH!!!!!!!!

I always thought if it was debit it got taken out straight away? I may stop using my debit card then as I always get confuse with the actual amount and available amount when I go to get cash out!

no it can take a while for payments to come out.
same thing happened to me, thought i was being all charitable giving £20 to comic relief, and then 3months later or something after i thought it was long gone they took my last £20 and i went overdrawn and had all the daily fines etc! put me off giving to charity!

i was overdrawn and had to pay, i rang up and they said coz it was my first time they wud let me off so give them a ring

agree with kirsty, def ring them! kinda defeats the object of 'direct debit account' though!!

I would give them a ring. Although you shouldnt pay for things by card or cheque if you dont have the funds available at that moment in time, knowing that they will come off when you do, for it is technically fraud xxx

My online banking always seems to be a day or so behind whats actually going in/out my account. maybe its that

I did actually have money in - over £100 and I was expecting £100 to go in on the thursday but it didnt as OH's bank are now taking 4 days to send through SO's instead of doing it instantly like they have for the past few months (they didnt even tell us this). So there would have been more than enough to cover it and the other payments that were to come off except the money hasnt gone through, I had to get my dad to bail me out :(.

It's more the cheek that it was dated for the 6th, yet appeared on my account on the 7th. Even if it was honoured on the 6th if Natwest didnt process it till the 7th then I think that it should have been dated the 7th.

thats crazy! i'm with the lloyds tsb branch on union terrace in aberdeen, and im sure they hate me now. i ave bought items and thinking it has been paid and taken out of my account ill leave my account for a few days thinking i have money then when i desperately need to use my card i cant as ive looked at the bank statement and the money doesnt come out, like you said can be up to 10 days afterwards, annoys the hell out of me.

and im in a under 19s account even though im over 19 now and they refuse to change it, assholes

Well it gets worse!

The payment from OH's account to mine has been RETURNED to his! It says it was paid back in via a bank giro credit........The money never even touched my account! It was the correct sort code and account number, so I want to know what the hell was going on as he had more than enough ££ in there to cover it!

I think my bank might have refused it, if they did I will want to know why!?

ARGH!!

This sounds simular! I am having a nighmare with my bank at the moment- HSBC have always come across as cowboys but today they have excelled in the stupidity and bully boy tacktics to the point they have me in tears. Who you with?

Apparently at the moment paying back free's is on hold- you can still write to them to get in the que but have to wait untill a test case has been heard apparently.

Sorry this is old but just to let you know, if you are in financial hardship you can apply for your bank charges back and they have to look at your case NOW now when the desicion comes through, its all on moneysupermarket.com.

I know this is old but i am really peed with my bank RBS, i have 2 charged one for the 5of june the day i got payed so there would have been more than enough in it to cover it + one for the 3rd of july again had more than enough! Ive now added up everthing and done the sums myself to find than i am short of which i bloody shood have! I took money out from a cash mashine, the money come off and i checked it today and the moneys come off again! does any one know if you can get some sort of company to look into your bank accounts and check it? I' am with RBS the worst bank ever!

I seem to be having a lot of trouble with my bank at the moment with going overdrawn etc. I am currently banking with Natwest and when I went in to complain about charges, they told me theres something going on at the min where they are trying to stop all charges and offering people refunds for past charges etc. Maybe you should go in and mention this to them and see if you could be entitled to something similar?

It might be worthwhile asking if they have any interest free overdrafts available. I just got charged for going into mine the othe rmonth so i went in and complained and they brought my OD down from £500 to £300 but its interest free and no charges so def worth it X
