Do all babies get some degree of flat head?

My son has a really bad flat head, its quite upsetting. Iv been to the doctors but tjey say its cosmetic so they wont do anything. Its gotten to the stage where hes sitting up the entire day to try and make it a bit better but its not getting better at all. I feel like it wont fix :(

My neighbours son had a flat head and they were immediately referred to the local children's hospital. I would perhaps try again or get a second opinion.

No flat head but a bit of a bald spot on the back of her head. I think both are pretty normal though :flower:

I am sure that's not right, speak to your health visitor to intervene with the GP and ask for a referral.

I have been to the doctor twice and mentioned it every time I get him weighed at the health visitors, last time I was at the doctor she said if I was that worried I need to see a specialist which would be a private doctor and not through the nhs

Yep - my son has one. I'm convinced it's due to his forceps delivery as he didn't spend a lot of time sleeping on his back for the first few weeks (mainly in my arms). To be honest, it doesn't bother me much. I think it will be hardly noticeable once he has a full head of hair.

Mine has a slightly flattened left side, and a great big stripe of missing hair :) I keep finding it on the mattress, or get bits of it in my mouth when I kiss him on the head :) I'm not worried about the flat head...most people I know have experienced it with their children, I thought it was really common. Agree with ^^ a full head of hair will cover it.

My first daughter always slept with her head to the left. We didn't think anything of it until at her 2 month visit for vaccinations that the nurse pointed out her head was flatter in that spot. She said if the head were to remain flat and we did nothing to improve it, it can mess up their facial features cuz the face will shift forward.

She referred us to head shape specialist and they did an assessment on her and they said hers wasn't severe enough to get a helmet, which cost $1600, and she would've had to wear it for 24hrs a day for a couple months, so we were relieved.

The specialist referred us to a chiropractors office that specialized in infants. They showed us how to turn her head from side to side without hurting her and gave us tips on how to prevent it from getting worse. When she is awake, always have her upright, don't use a swing too much, don't use the infant car seat with the stroller just put her in the stroller so she is upright.

My daughter was born using forceps, I'm not sure if that affected her neck, but she didn't have the muscle strength to move her head from side to side. Doing those exercises helped, as well as tummy time so that she had more movement.

If your baby is sleeping on one side always, try to move their head to the other side when they are awake and see if they are resisting, it may be a neck muscle thing too. Cuz we never thought twice about it either, just thought she liked looking to the left.

Her head corrected itself once she could lift it more. You can't tell she had anything wrong.

Hair patches are common too as baby's move their head from side to side when laying down, or If the spot they always lay on, their hair will fall out. Not all babies, but I know a lot of them get it.

My lo didn't get any flat spots. He was forceps delivery so his head was a little squishy and out of shape but it rounded out pretty quickly. As soon as he was able to move his head from side to side he rotated it himself a few times a night.

My lo had a huge bald stripe around the back of her head when she was about 2 months old from constantly flopping her head from side to side during the night but no flat spots. Now at 7 months the bald patch is just one small area and it is starting to regrow. She has slept up to 12 hours over night from being 11 weeks and always on her back.

We had a normal delivery and HV commented on her lovely round head despite the fact that she was stuck for ages. Maybe some babies just have tougher heads?

I do know of some babies with flat spots and they are the babies that don't spend much time on their back at all! I would love to know what the reason behind it is!
