Just a general query .. ive noticed a lot of you have said that youve got all your baby clothes washed? I got a couple of clothes bundles of ebay for cheap which i definately intend on washing .. but does this count for new clothes too? Thanks ladies :) xx

I've washed ALL my clothes, blankets, towels etc. I wanted to make sure they were as clean, soft and chemical free as possible

X

I have hun, just to get all the factory stuff off them and also so that everything has the same washing powder and fabric conditioner - both me and OH have sensitive skin so likely our LO will too so wanted to use sensitive products on all his things. Makes your house smell gorgeous too, and it wasnt as long a job as I had thought it would be as shops make baby clothes tumble dryer compatible xx

Im washing all my baby clothes in non bio especially the new ones like bee21 says the manufacturers spray chemicals on the clothes so they stay crease free. x

this is one thing i was unsure about..... i washed everything in the end you dont know were the clothes have been etc. also i finished work 1 month before due date and it gave me something to do :))

Hi!

Well I was unsure about this too, but after looking on here and researching elsewhere on the internet, I decided that It was best too wash all of the baby's new clothes, blankets, towels etc etc, as a baby's skin is sensitive and you never really know where the clothes have been. In the shops they could have been handled by anyone or dropped on the floor etc etc. So just to be safe i've started washing them.

The only problem is that I have been told I am having a girl at two different scans, and so most of the clothes I have bought are pink and I have had to remove the tags to wash them. Although I'm sure that she is a girl I occasionally worry that I have washed and removed the tags from lots of pink things and that perhaps she could be a boy lol! Me and hubbie joke about it, but can you imagine!!!???? having all these pink clothes that are non-returnable? :haha: Just to be sure, I haven't washed everything YET, but they will be washed before I put them on her!

good luck! :) x

We didn't wash anything.

Ive just been washing things as ive bought them so havent had a big load to do. Its lovely seeing little baby clothes on the washing line again. xx

do anyone iron babies clothes after washing them? xx

I did. I washed and ironed it all during half term and put it all away in the furniture we had delivered (and DH and my dad built) the same week.

I was wondering this too. Now that I understand why you lot do I probably will. But even though all my stuff is new a lot of it doesnt have tags inside the clothes so I wont know what size it is once I take off the price tags and wash them... hmm

I've washed and ironed everything! I loved doing it because I got to play with all her little clothes and it did give me something to do! I hate ironing my fiance's shirts even more now, they seem so big!

I washed it all by size cos I had a few things like that!

I'm not washing the new stuff, it would take me forever and I'm too tired lol xxx

I wash everything that I buy... even for myself so ALL my babies stuff has been washed.

Also after reading that someone bought a packet of UN-OPENED knickers to find a dead maggot in them, I will definately was all clothes.

eww i remember that, they were from primark werent they! uurgh xx

we didnt wash all of jesses stuff, some of it we did, like vests and sleepsuits, but outfits i didnt really bother doing and only ironed the odd thing i hardly ever iron his clothes now cus they dont really need it! i wash his sheets and blankets though, x

I wash all new things, be it for baby or adults. I do this for the following reasons

To wash off the finishing chemicals they put on clothes to make them look better. If clothes are being shipped from far away, they often use formaldehyde to prevent mildew growing on the clothes.

To remove excess dyes in the fabric (babies are especially sensitive to these reasons)

To wash in case someone else had already bought, used, and returned them (putting them back on the store shelves with ??? bacteria on them). It happens! Read a study once where they took new clothes and had microbiologists test them. They found all manner of human bacteria, from sweat to yeast to FECAL matter, on some of the ''brand new'' clothes..(which had been retagged and reshelved for sale) after people returned them to the store. All invisible to the naked eye and the clothes looked spanking new. You just never know...

That's all I need to know to get me washing! lol

Nope have just washed all his 2nd hand bits. Don't want to wash any new items as I think it's abit OTT IMO. No offence to anyone who has washed all of bubs new clothes just each to their own I guess! X

i wash all new clothes etc that i buy as well, in fact i thought that everybody did lol
i do wonder why everyone seems to wash baby's clothes seperatly though - all our washing gets done together
