My OH works away monday to friday, he stays here at the weekends but Im starting to get worried about him missing the birth? Hes only been allowed 2/3 weeks of paid paternity leave and so we were going to just leave it til there was 'signs' before he took his time off incase he ended up spending his leave sat waiting with me if I go overdue. He doesnt drive and is 3 hours away on the train, but obviously no trains run at night so if something were to happen between 8pm and 7am he couldnt do anything? Is there signs that its about to happen? How likely is it do you think that he might miss the birth?

Its a tough one, there have been "this is it posts" in here that lasted for ever, also same posts saying it all happened really quickly :S

I've had every sign under the sun but cervix was still closed on Friday, midwife says it could all happen quickly >.<

Could he take holidays? or pull a sicky when you 1st start feeling signs? that way he can still go back if you get a false start?

Aww hun I would hate to think that my OH would miss the birth I would like to say there are signs but I never had any signs with my son I was doing all the normal like shopping walking loads with no BH or anyhing the day I went in to labour my water's just went a 2 in the morning just as I was about to fall asleep fingers crossed for you hun that he doest miss the birth xx

He has 10 weeks to learn to drive!

I guess if he is away 50% of the time then its more likely its going to be a bit of a mission getting back home to see you. Not sure if your first labour? but first time labours start slowly and you will have a good few hours to get him back!

Theres no point in him learning to drive cause we live in the city, yeah its my first labour and have read they can be really slow! Hes gonna be home a lot around december and then the 3 weeks when hes born aswell, he is allowed to work from home occasionally but I know theres an awful lot on at the moment so dont really want him to do that if he can help it at all as hes up for promotion soon
